Son of a Preacher Man
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Son of a Preacher Man (1968)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song was originally offered to Aretha Franklin, who turned it down. What's the most recent thing that you said "no" to? I said "no" to signing up for a cruise offered by Mas Verde. Joe and I went on one cruise and decided it is not for us. We have many friends who love to cruise. Count us out.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Joe and I went on one cruise and decided it is not for us. We have many friends who love to cruise. Count us out.
2) Two years later, Aretha recorded "Son of a Preacher Man." What's something you changed your mind about? It won't be about cruising!! I really can't think of anything I've changed my mind about recently.
3) This song tells the tale of Billy Ray, a young man who could be very persuasive. If we wanted to change your mind about something, would you be more easily swayed by an emotional argument, or with verifiable facts? It really would depend on what it is but I would probably go with verifiable facts.
4) If you ordered a "Son of a Preacher Man" in a bar, you'd get a cocktail made with peppermint schnapps, gin, and lemonade. When did you last have lemonade? It has been about six months. I had a lemonade at Mayfaire last May. Was it just lemonade, or was it spiked with alcohol? It was just lemonade.
5) Dusty had a thing for maps. She admired them artistically and enjoyed using them to take long car trips. Do you use printed maps? Or do you rely on technology, like GPS or Google Maps? I like having the paper maps in the car and always get them from AAA before a long trip, but these days we really do rely on Google Maps/Waze to get us to our destinations.
6) As a girl, she attended a convent school. There, one of the nuns discouraged Dusty from performing, telling her that if she would do better to be a mother or a librarian. When you were growing up, did the adults in your world encourage your dreams? I was blessed with very supportive parents and they didn't push any of us to do anything we didn't want to do. We chose and they encouraged us. We knew while in high school that they would pay for one year of college, business school, or a technical school. After a year, we had to figure out how to do the rest. That made us more responsible I think.
7) That nun inspired Dusty's first major act of rebellion. In an attempt to make herself look less like a future librarian or housewife, she bleached her hair platinum blonde. In school, were you much of a rebel? Or did you conform to the expectations adults had of you? I was (am) the typical first-born. I was not a rebel, I followed the rules and tried to always do what was expected of me.
8) Early in her career, Dusty provided the entertainment at a family summer camp. She appeared on the bill with a clown, a fire-eater, and a hypnotist. Have you ever been hypnotized? No, I have not. I have thought about it from time-to-time (for weight loss) but I've not done it.
9) Random question: Have you ever played matchmaker to your friends? If yes, did your efforts lead to romance? It has been years since I fixed my cousin Tom up with my different girlfriends. Nothing came from those fix-ups. I had my brother go out with my friend, Lois, once and they didn't hit it off either. All of those were over 40 years ago.

Thanks to Sam Winters for this week's Saturday 9!! Thanks for your visit today!! Peace & hugs.

I can hear her now, that raspy voice!
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a cruise. Always wanted to go though. Maybe someday.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I am not a cruise fan either. To me, all that food that is available 24/7 would be too much of a temptation.
ReplyDeleteI've never been on a cruise either, and really am not interested. I prefer to stay on solid ground. I haven't had lemonade in quite a while. I mostly drink unsweet iced tea, and hot tea in the morning. But I like a really good homemade lemonade if you can find it. The last time was at the Fryeburg Fair in Fryeburg, Maine, several years ago. It was really good. I am just learning to use the gps on my new smart phone. I needed it today as a matter of fact, as I was lost and going in circles. I prayed and asked the Lord to help me, and then i asked by phone to help me, and between the two of them I got home safely. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI like to print out maps before I go anywhere as a back up. Phones don't always work in remote areas where we live. I married a preacher-man, not a son of a preacher man. Although he wasn't one when I married him. He was a student studying to be a PE teacher/coach. You just never know what surprises God may have in store for you!!
Boy, #4 would well have described Tom and I butting heads last week! Me (emotion) v. Tom (just the facts).
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to have cruised years ago when most ships were smaller and offered more intimate, individualized service. Today's mega-liners and forced camaraderie are a real turn-off. I don't blame y'all for taking a pass.
I have no desire to go on a cruise, either. I've never been on one, but nothing that I hear tempts me even a little.
