Tuesday Tidbits....

Joey and Darlene have been with us for a couple of nights and it's been fun having them. For so long they were 1,600 miles away and we were lucky to see them once a year. Now we can get together so much more often with only a five-hour drive between us!  They have to leave today, but we at least know we will see them again soon!

There is a new restaurant in Brandon, FL, that I heard is really good (out of Chicago).  We decided to visit it for lunch, after my doctor appointment yesterday.  Darlene decided to stay home with the pups, but Joey rode along with us.  It was not what we expected, but it WAS delicious!  We will go again!

Joe and I had the Italian Beef sandwich with hot peppers. I had the onion rings (shared with Joe). Joey had a tuna steak sandwich and cheese fries.  Yummy stuff!! It was nicely crowded but the lines moved quickly.

Now, for the doctor thing.  What a disappointment. First of all, a co-worker recommended the Florida Orthopaedic Institute to me after she had a great experience there with her torn ACL.  Six months ago, I called for an appointment with one of the doctors. Some of you may remember that I got a phone call while I was on the road, going to the appointment, that the doctor was called away for an emergency. Great. I understand - it happens. They wanted to reschedule, but I said I had nothing invested with that doctor, perhaps there was another one I could see sooner.  They gave me Dr. Miranda so I went to the appointment and liked him okay. Spent most of the appointment with the P.A.  I set my next appointment with him for two weeks ago.  Wouldn't you know it...Dr. Miranda was called out of town and they had to cancel my appointment. We rescheduled for yesterday, at 1:30.

We arrived at 1:05 for the 1:30 appointment. Checked in and paid the co-pay,  Sat in the waiting room (which Joey later described as very like an ER waiting room - crowded and stinky). After waiting for an hour and 10 minutes, I went up to ask how much longer it would be.  She told me the doctor was running 45 minutes behind and there were still two ahead of me.  I'm sorry, but it makes me furious. I told her to take my name off the list and that I wouldn't be back.  Walked out with my boys following. Two cancellations and making me wait for nearly two hours. I want nothing to do with this medical group. They are also 40 minutes away from Lakeland.  So - now I can decide to keep next month's appointment with my local doctor, or try to find another one.  I've been so disappointed.with my orthopaedic doctors.  I'm too young for knee replacement, or I'm too heavy for knee replacement.  So what other help can I get?  Is there a brace that will help? I know there aren't any pain meds I can take because I'm on blood thinners. Well, I can take Tylenol (which ruins your liver) or Tramadol (which makes me sleepy and nauseous).

Have you had enough of my whining?  I'm sorry.  My knees hurt. I just want some help with them.  I'm very frustrated right now. I want a doctor who will take an interest.  Our nephew is 10 years younger than me and weighs just 8 pounds less than me. He has two new knees. Do I need to move up to Maryland to find a doctor who will take my problems seriously?  Our nephew has thyroid problems. I lost my entire thyroid to cancer. Two of my medications slow my metabolism and my heart rate (AFib). Excuses, excuses. I know. Poor me.

Thanks for getting this far - for listening!  I appreciate you!  Peace & hugs. I'll shake it off and will be ready to tackle this again - maybe tomorrow. Sigh.

  2. I am glad you enjoyed the restaurant. Nothing like a good Chicago hot dog or Italian Beef.

No, that is Fla. for you...the doctors down there, shaking my head. I'm just saying and I def. would file a complaint and get my co pay back, hopefully you did get that back. Shaking my head...

    Sorry Terri...keeping you in prayer.

  3. What a great disappointment!! I am so sorry to read this. I am praying as I read your blog that the help you need will present itself. Such disrespect for your time and travel, etc, is not acceptable.

  4. I know several youngish (late 50's) with various joint replacements. Keep fighting so you can be pain free!

  5. Terri, my cousin had her knee replaced at age 50! So I would keep looking...also from my experience when Marvin had his knee done two years ago, there were people of all ages and sizes at rehab!! And you were right to leave...I would not put up with that either. Marvin's knee replacement made a WORLD of difference for him....you do not need to hurt!! Good Luck as you search for another doctor.

  6. Oh man - that INFURIATES me that doctors can make you sit & wait that long. Rude. Just Rude. That says a lot about that doctor. Move on - find someone else. There's lots of good doctors out there.
I'm so sorry you are struggling so much. knee pain is miserable. Keep searching though... its like finding a husband :) You gotta keep hunting until you find a doctor who understands you & clicks with your needs.

  7. I'm so sorry...had hoped you'd get some answers yesterday. :( I don't have any suggestions....my hubby has had a bad experience with orthopaedic doctors here in Tennessee...so I'm not sure it's a state thing. Praying for you.

  8. I am so sorry for you terrible experience with the doctors. It's so frustrating when things like that happen. Hope you can find a good one, that keeps his schedule on track. I want to let you know I had to close my facebook account. I was hacked, the worse ever. So upset with facebook right now because I'm having a hard time getting ahold of them for help. Anyway, I'll be sending you a new friend request, it will be MaryJane K-Hutchins and the profile picture will be a pink M.

  9. Oh, I'd have been furious! Sounds like the person in charge of scheduling considers her patients no better than cattle. :(
This may be too far out of your way, my BF in St. Pete has discovered a pain management clinic there on 9th St. North (I think). D's suffered nearly 20 years now from what started as carpel tunnel, through two surgeries and numerous therapies, but she really likes these folks. If you'd like, I'll try and learn more.

PS - We love Portillo's! Well, Hubby more so than me, on account he's from Chicago.

  10. Oh my goodness, Terri. I had no idea you had all these problems. Bless your heart. That is insane about the doctors' group. I really don't blame you for leaving. I pray you will be able to find someone who can help you. The dilemma about the medications is also a very real problem. I don't hear you whining at all. I just hear your pain.
Now, on a lighter note. I saw a cartoon today on Facebook. A waiter asked the diners if there was something wrong with their food. When they replied it was delicious, he said he noticed they hadn't taken a picture of it yet. Lol!

  11. That is ridiculous! I hope you can find an ortho Dr who takes this seriously. I can tell you that I've taken care of people younger and much heavier than you after having total knee replacement, so this makes no sense. You were right to walk out!

  12. I hope you find a doctor Terri. It might be worth traveling to get the care and attention you seek.

  13. Oh I am SO with you on leaving that doctor's office! I'd send them a bill for my time wasted. That really is infuriating. And there has got to be someone who will pay attention and talk seriously about knee replacement. Do you have a chiropractor who could recommend someone? I find that I like recommendations from others who know someone who knows someone. And I might ask if they keep their schedule on time! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. xoxo

  14. I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time finding a Doctor. When I read stories like this I am so glad for our national health service. Here we'd visit our GP and they would refer us to the appropriate department at the hospital. Hope you get it sorted soon, and the money back from such a wasted visit.

  16. I am SO sorry that you're having such a time finding help for your knee!! Ranting needs to be done sometimes. I am adding you to my prayer list and am asking that you'll be led to a doctor that will listen, understand, and do something about your situation.
