The Hodgepodge is Back This Week!!!

Thank you, Joyce, From This Side of the Pond, for another fun Hodgepodge!  Join in with all of us Hodgepodgers by clicking HERE and then linking up with your answers.

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 264

1. This is the last Hodgepodge in April. Share something you learned this month.  I learned that all doctors are not created equal. See my post from yesterday.

2.  It's National Poetry Month, and we all know you can't escape an April Hodgepodge without a little poetry. Keeping the first line as is, change the rest of the wording in this familiar rhyme to make it your own (Poetry is not one of my strengths.) - 'Hickory Dickory Dock...

Hickory Dickory Dock,
My cat ran around the block.
She came home, but was followed
By a flock of barn swallows.
The noise they made was a shock!

3. What were one or two rules in the home you grew up in?  10:00 curfew on weekends - even when I was a senior in high school!  Growing up, did you feel your parents were strict? Yes.  Looking back do you still see it that way?  Yes, they were with me, a little less with my brother and heck - hardly at all with my two little sisters!  Ha!  I'm sure they will disagree!  :)

4. Tell us about a kitchen or cooking disaster or mishap you've experienced. Do you have many from which to choose?  Cooking... I don't know that I've had any I would call a disaster, but lots of times a recipe isn't as good as I was hoping it would be. I did have a kitchen disaster quite a few years ago.  I turned on the self-cleaning oven, not realizing that oil had spilled over in the bottom of the oven.  It caught fire and smoke filled the house. We had to call the fire department to clear out the smoke. The oven was fine, by the way. The Fireman told me they are made to withstand temperatures like that. What a mess, though!  And it stunk for days after. We had to buy some smoke odor-remover from a janitorial supply place and used it liberally.

5. Plant a kiss, plant doubt, plant a tree, plant yourself somewhere...which on the list have you most recently planted?  I've planted kisses most recently, with Joey and Darlene here visiting.  Hugs and kisses hello; hugs and kisses goodnight....

6. What's your most worn item of clothing this time of year?  Gosh, I don't have one thing that I wear over and over - I have an entire closet full of clothes I wear over and over!  LOL  Are you tired of it?  I just recycled more warm-weather clothing from the over-flow closet and put away cold-weather items. Not much difference here in Florida, but there is a difference and it feels like I have some "new" things to wear to work now.

7. I'm wrapping up the A-Z Blog Challenge this month and our Hodgepodge lands on letter W. What's one word beginning with W that describes you in some way?  Weary.  How about a word to describe your home, also beginning with W?  Weathered....we need to get the pressure washer out and clean the driveway, sidewalk and pool deck.  Nasty green stuff everywhere!

8. Insert your own random thought here.  This water bottle holds 60 ounces of water. I bring it to work with me every day and make myself drink it all.  I'm amazed at how different I feel when I am well hydrated!  On weekends, I don't fill it and by mid-day I can really tell if I have not had enough water to drink.  I actually get thirsty now if I don't get my 60 ounces (or more). I also have a cup or two of coffee in the morning, and iced tea or more bottled water in the evening. It really does feel good to be hydrated.  Do you drink enough liquid every day?

I so appreciate your visit!  No whining today. I'm over it (referencing yesterday's post).

Happy Hodgepodge!!  Peace & hugs.

  1. You weren't whining, Terri. You was speaking the truth....enjoyed your answers...and we had rules like that too and my brothers got away with murder, lol. Have a beautiful day, friend.

    1. Linda, This is Visits With Mary. For some reason I can't comment on your blog. When I click on the 'post comment' nothing happens. I'm still visiting everyday though.

  3. When I was going to boot camp hydration was a big thing. The trainer said most of us are not hydrated enough. He also said coffee was okay, but for every 8 oz of caffeinated beverage you should add another 8 oz of water to your day. I drink less coffee these days. I haven't read your post, but what's a blog for if not to whine now and then? : )

  4. I am a water drinker too Terri. I have a big Tervis Glass that I fill several times a day. You are right..water does make a difference.

  5. Yes, water makes a big difference for me. I started drinking iced water with lemon in my 24 oz. Tervis and try to get at least 3 in a day. I have to switch around my closet and make room for warmer weather clothes, but at least they take up less room :)

  6. Sure is nice to know I'm not the only one whose parents were strict. I wonder though, I notice you are the oldest child. Do you think that has any bearing on our parents being so strict with us? My brother did whatever he wanted and he turned out to be one of the best men I've ever known. Your poem is good and I can imagine that you are feeling weary what with everything going on.

    2. Yes - first born is always the guinea pig for parents, I think. My brother also turned into an amazing man - husband, father, son and brother. Having strict parents is a good thing, I think. We turned out okay!!

  7. I liked your poem! And I think it's always true that the firstborn has a harder time, while the parents are trying to figure out how to parent. LOL Thanks for the reminder about hydration. I used to set a half gallon pitcher on the countertop, filled with water and the juice of a lemon and make sure it was gone by the time I went to bed. I haven't done that for a while, but need to get back into the habit. I've heard that the rule of thumb is: Take your weight, divide that number in half, call it ounces, and that's how many ounces of water you need to drink a day. Anyway, thanks for the reminder! Have a good day, Terri. xo

  8. Oh, my! I went back and read your doctor's experience. You have every reason to complain, and you're right, all doctors aren't equal. I could tell you some doctors' stories that would make your hair curl! Don't give up your search, I know there's someone, somewhere, who will be willing and able to help you.

  9. I was the only girl with three brothers, my parents weren't near as strict on them as they were on me! Oh how I would fight that as a teenager. I remember thinking I was mistreated, lol. Of course I wasn't. Long ago and far away!

  10. I'm glad you're feeling better today. I probably don't drink enough water but I'm working on it.

  11. I like that water bottle you have! I sure can feel the difference when I am gone from home all day and don't drink as much.

  12. I do feel better being well hydrated. My sugar levels are easier to maintain in the desired range if I drink plenty of fluids. I'm glad you're drinking plenty of fluids also. In Florida it is critical given the heat and humidity. Two mysteries of life is (1) Where do socks go and why does only one sock go? (2) How do hangars multiply in the closet? Thanks for visiting my blog page.

  14. Where you the oldest? I was and my parents were the most strict with me. I told my siblings that I had worn in the parents for them. :)

    1. Yes, I am. I asked my mom once why she didn't get on my sisters like she did me....she replied that she is too tired now. Ha!

  15. Cute poem!
That's a great idea to carry a cute water bottle with you to work to gauge your intake. I've become pretty lax in that department ..... here in the desert it's deceptively easy to become dehydrated. I'm going to look for something like that this weekend!

  16. Dick and I each have a stainless steel, insulated water bottle that we take with us everywhere we go. We both love our water really cold, so we fill our bottles with ice in the morning and keep adding water all day long. I too can really tell when I haven't been drinking enough water.

  17. I need a water bottle that size. I have to refill mine and I think that's one reason I'm slack about drinking so much. I'm certainly looking forward to planting a kiss on my first grand! :) Have a great weekend!
