On Wednesday, the kids took us to St. Simon's Island and then into historic Brunswick. We had another great day, seeing the area where they now live. If you missed #1, check it out from the archives....
St. Simon's is more commercial and residential than Jekyll Island, and is much, much bigger. We went first to the downtown area and walked up one street and down another, peeking into some of the shops as we strolled along. The ocean view was lovely.

Joe and Joey....
Darlene and me....
We drove around the Island then. Joey wanted us to see how big it is, but it is mostly residential. There are some lovely park areas, though, and some beautiful views here and there.
We left the Island and went into Brunswick. I was disappointed. The "historic" downtown area is barron and kind of ugly. I hope there are plans for some revitalization.
A very dead downtown Brunswick, GA.
Basil Restaurant is in the very dead downtown area and is worth the trip to eat there! Joe and Darlene love it and go frequently....the waitress asked if they wanted their "usual"....

We shared a vegetable roll of delicious sushi. We each ordered something different and we were all thrilled with our choices. So, so good!!
Later in the evening (our last night) we went to the Mall while Joey had to go to the office for a few minutes. Then we picked up some pizza from Sal's, back on St. Simon's Island. Let me just say that it is the best pizza we have had in a long, long time. Joey called the order in before we left and the wait was 90 minutes. We had plently of time to see the Mall and do some shopping before we had to pick up the pizza. They were just putting them in the boxes when we got there, so our timing was perfect.
I took some photos of the outside of their home. It is beautiful inside too, with hardwood floors, granite counters, stainless appliances in the kitchen...four bedrooms, three bathrooms. Very comfortable. Gorgeous!
Yes, they have a lake in their backyard and there is an alligator living there!
Back screened in porch and patio.
We hated to leave, but leave we did. It took us six hours to get home because of heavy holiday traffic, but it was a safe trip and we saw no bad accidents. We arrived back in Lakeland at around 4:00 p.m. and had time (and energy) to unpack and then relax before going to bed. Our cats were happy to see us. Our neighbor took very good care of them and the house while we were gone. We are so blessed to have them next door.

On New Year's Day, we headed over to Disney, to the Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. It is on the west side of Orlando, so only takes us about 40 minutes to get there. Disney is actually in Kissimmee, rather than in Orlando. Our niece, Dawn (daughter of Joe's younger brother) and her daughter, Hannah, were there for a national soccer tournament. There are also college scouts there too, which makes it important to be seen. Hannah's team won their first game, and won again while we were watching on their second day there! I haven't heard how they did on Saturday but hope they won then, too.
That is Joe and Dawn walking toward me.
You can't see the scoreboard, but is shows 2-0. We won against a team from Georgia, by two points to zero. The girls all played hard!
I doubt that even enlarged you can see Hannah, but she is #14.
Uncle Joe, Great-Niece Hannah, and our Niece Dawn, after the game.
They live in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. Dawn and Sam have three kids. Mack is a senior headed for Loyola University next year. Hannah is a sophomore this year, and Julia is in 7th grade. Dawn is a runner and does marathons. We are very proud of all of them. Dawn is the oldest child (of 7) of Joe's younger brother, Nick.
That catches you up with our week after Christmas. It has been so much fun! Hard to get back to work this week, but back to work I am. Chrismas got put away on Sunday. On to a fantastic 2016!!
Thanks for your visit! Peace & hugs.

I enjoyed everything about your post, Terri. And shorts in Jan. pff. (giggling) (-2* and 6-7 inches of snow on the ground as of this morning/Monday)
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful upcoming week. Thanks for the smiles.
Enjoyed seeing some sunshine in your photos this morning. We have been lacking in it lately here in the cold north - so enjoy :-)

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome Christmas and New Year you had. Oh, I'm so envious of all that sunshine and warm temps...it's so cold here....brrr!! (not near as bad as Ms. Linda in New York, though). Happy New Year to you and Mr. Joe.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed reading about your holiday travels. Whew, I'm tired, now :)
ReplyDeleteOf course, I especially enjoyed reading about your trip to Brunswick, Jeckyll Island, and St. Simon's Island! Did you think of me while touring St. Simon's? Ha! I especially love that park on the water. It's where Ed and I always go.
