Go With The Flow Friday....

You know, sometimes you just have to go with the flow....

I got a call (from Joe) around noon yesterday, and he told me that he was at the hospital.  He had an appointment with his doctor at the VA, at 7:30 a.m.  She was taking his vitals and found that his heart was racing and he was in a-fib (atrial fibrillation).  She said she was calling the ambulance to take him to the hospital, even though he argued that he could drive himself.  They couldn't deal with the a-fib at the VA clinic.

He was admitted through the ER and was already in his room when he called me at the office.  I will just say that this isn't the first time this has happened.  He was more worried about his car than about himself because it was still at the VA Clinic.  One of my co-workers went with me to pick up his car and take it to the house. I grabbed his razor and toothbrush, deodorant, etc. as well as his PJ bottoms and some clean undies - a drill I was familiar with. They told him he would be in at least until Saturday. On the way to the hospital, I dropped my co-worker off at the Museum and went on to see my sweetie.

I couldn't stay late with him because it was "trash night".  Our trash and recycle gets picked up on Fridays, so I had to get all of that ready to go out on the curb (usually Joe's job).  The cats also had to be fed. I'll spend more time with him today, and fingers crossed that the a-fib will be over and he can come home on Saturday.

I've been through the a-fib myself, and take medication for it, including a blood thinner. They were still waiting to hear from his doctor about what blood thinner to put him on. Hoping he won't have to do warfarin.  I take Eliquis.

What Is Atrial Fibrillation?

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a heart rhythm abnormality caused by a problem with the heart's electrical system. Normally, the heart's electricity flows from the top chambers (atria) to the bottom chambers (ventricles), causing the normal contraction. In atrial fibrillation, the electrical flow is chaotic causing the heartbeat to become irregular.

So, not how we thought we would be spending the weekend, but we do what we have to do.  Your prayers for Joe will be so appreciated!  I'm not worried because he is in good hands, but I do want him to rest and recover and get this under control.

Thanks for your visit - and happy Friday!  Peace & hugs.

  2. You do have your hands full lady. Prayers will be lifted. My heart goes into VT and I take a med for that too. Irregular and racing at times. Put me in the hospital almost 3 years ago after my mom died. IT was stress. I'm sure of it. Anyways, stay strong Terri.

  3. Bummer having to be at the hospital - - but on the good side is it was caught - again - before it was a major problem. Wonder what causes it because it does not seem uncommon in those of us who have passed 50. Praying his recovery is rapid and uneventful so life can go back to normal for you all.
Also I am sorry you don't hear much from me anymore. It has been a very, very busy year with both boys since school started. As you have seen on FB, it is also a year full of childhood illnesses which is to be expected at their ages but also very time-consuming. Even when they aren't sick, things stay hopping around here!!
You are a wonderful happy person and I am glad I still get to read about your life every day. Love you both! Lynda

  4. I have your Joe in my prayers. I'm glad that the VA clinic caught the A-fib and he could have it attended to right away. Typical guy to be more concerned about a vehicle than himself! I hope things get resolved quickly for you both.

  5. Prayers for your Joe, and you, too. My Mom has A-Fib, but can't take blood thinners due to anemia/bleeding. I take Magnesium Oxide for my "heart issues", and can tell if I don't take it for a few days. HOPE he gets to come home tomorrow and you all have a restful SONday. Take care, Friend.

  8. I am so sorry to hear your news about Joe. Like you tho, I am familiar with A-fib, as Jim has it and we have been to the hospital many times. He is on Eliquis too and we like it so much better than Warfarin and those frequent checks. I will be praying for him, and you, and hope you will keep us posted. Sending love and hugs your way.

  14. Praying for Joe, and you too! I've been through this several times with my Dad.
I hope it's not Warfarin either; Eliquis or Xarelto are good and don't need the constant blood tests.

  15. I'm so sorry, Terri! I'm glad there are meds to fix this. I often have irregular heartbeat, but just for short periods of time - palpitations. I pray that he's home with you by now.
