Finally Friday!!

This has been a loooonnnnnnggggg week. Seems like that always happens after a long holiday weekend.  But, Friday is here!

Lakeland's Junior League Christmas Parade was last night. It is HUGE with over 120 floats, all the marching bands in town, many, many businesses and - for the first time - Polk Museum of Art participated.  We are celebrating our 50th anniversary, as is the Imperial Symphony Orchestra, and the Lakeland Community Theater is celebrating 30 years.  We went together to have a float in the parade. Let me tell you, it is pretty expensive to do a float, but worth it for these special celebrations and it wasn't quite so bad sharing the expense with the other two groups.  Several co-workers and their families rode on the float. Joe and I watched it in our jammies from the comfort of our living room.  It is broadcast live on the local government TV station.  I pulled these photos from Facebook:

"Our" float - decorated in about five hours yesterday afternoon.
Most of that decorating time was in the rain. We were worried the parade would be canceled, but it went on, on time!

Two of my co-workers' kids, riding the float.  So cute!

So, the Christmas season has been officially kicked-off here in Lakeland, FL!!  Now to finish our shopping and to get the house decorated....maybe even the Christmas tree.  :)

Thanks for stopping by!  Peace & hugs.

  2. This is the best way to watch a parade. You're comfortable and don't have to fight with crowds. Have a good day.

  3. So much fun...seems you're really in the Christmas spirit! Your and Mr. Joe's way of watching the parade would be my choice, too. LOL HOPE you have an awesome weekend.

  4. I haven't been to a parade in years. Watching them on tv is my choice too. No crowds. Trying to park. Yuck!
    Have a great day!

  7. Parades were always fun with the kids, but now days, we would be like you, and watch it from our recliners! I have done a tiny bit of decorating, but not much. I have received all the gifts I ordered, and now to wrap!

  8. Well, that's a cool thing to do in the rain! Lol! It is a nice float and those kids are so cute. I bet they loved riding on the float. I'm surprised you haven't done a tree yet. I surprised myself yesterday by getting a lot of Christmas stuff down and decorating. But I limited myself to what I thought might be a reasonable amount to pack up again and carry back to the attic since DH isn't up to those things anymore.

Congratulations to your Polk Museum on 50 years.

  9. How fun to have a float! The school where I taught always had a float in our local fair parade. I would sit on it with a bunch of the students and we would sing our way through the parade route!
