Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 227
Here are the questions to this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge. Answer on your own blog, then drop back here tomorrow to share answers with the universe. See you there!
1. When did you last 'swim against the tide'? Explain. I was jumping waves with my cousins and sister just today, as a matter of fact! Perhaps not exactly what you were after.....
2. What's the last self-help or self-improvement book you read? Can't remember, though I do read the Bible every day (and have it with me on vacation).
3. "Tolerance is a tremendous virtue, but the immediate neighbors of tolerance are apathy and weakness." (Sir James Goldsmith)
Agree or disagree? I think I would tend to agree. Discuss. With civility please, because I think we have a good thing going in our very diverse (in geography, age, religion, political persuasion, ethnicity, marital status, upbringing, and cooking abilities) neighborhood here on This Side of the Pond. Being tolerant is a virtue unless you are tolerant because you just don't care (apathy) or don't want to fight it (weakness). I think we all tolerate things and/or people to a degree. There is a fine line though, as stated in the quote.
4. What is one of your most vivid memories of the kitchen from your childhood? My mom singing with the radio as she worked.
5. How did/do your own children's summers compare with your summers as a child? If you're not a parent, answer as it relates to what you've observed about the current generation of children vs. your own childhood. I'm a step-parent and the boys were 16 and 20 when I entered their lives, but I could write volumes about this topic. I feel sorry for kids today that they don't have the freedom to play outside without the worry of predators, and/or that electronics have taken the place of relationships for so many.
6. Tell us what body of water you would most like to be on or near today, and why? I am there!! The beautiful Gulf of Mexico with her powdery white sand and warm waters!!
7. Share a favorite song about water, or a favorite song with the word water in it's title, or a favorite song to listen to as you sit beside the water. The best music when sitting beside the water is the sound of the surf and the birds, and kids laughing. One of my old time favorites though is Otis Redding's "Sittin On The Dock of the Bay" which really doesn't mention 'water' but the bay is full of water. That's my song and I'm sticking to it.
8. Insert your own random thought here. Family. Love. Life. Shared experiences. Memories. Priceless.
Thanks for checking in today! More pictures tomorrow! Peace & love!
Excellent answers for all of these, but I most agree with what you say in numbers 2 and 5. How sad number 5 is! Here's a kitchen memory that I don't think I've ever mentioned. In my family we always drank tea, even us little ones. I remember asking my mother if what I saw in a pan was tea and she said yes. I took a big drink and immediately spat it out. It was some kind of animal blood in water, probably chicken or rabbit. My mother didn't always listen to my questions.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day and a good dinner tonight.
Great answers, Terri...we had similar answers...smiles--have a lovely day at the beach. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI have so enjoyed reading your day to day events with your extended family..it makes me smile. I agree with your answers today and loved 'Sittin on the dock of the bay too'! Hope you have another great day.
ReplyDeleteLove Sittin on the Dock of the Bay. We sit in our car and watch the Bay. Watching the water is so calming. When my hubby feels up to it we sometimes walk on the jetty or beach.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I love your wonderful memory of your mother. I agree there is a fine line between tolerance and apathy - sometimes it is hard to know the difference. I struggle with that.
ReplyDeleteI picked the same song as you! In fact, I have a youtube video of it in case you want to listen. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great time at the beach!!
Loved all your answers....and that Otis Redding song is a favorite, too. HOPE you keep on having an awesome week.
ReplyDeleteGood answers! I think Sitting on the dock of the Bay is perfect for this.
ReplyDeleteSummers when I was a kid were spent outside, running and playing. Things have really changed.
Your answers are always good, but isn't it fun that the water theme just happened along while you are at the beach? Love it!
ReplyDeleteI"m so glad you're having a wonderful time! I love the Gulf of Mexico too. Wish I was there now : )
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are having a great time. Love the Otis song. And yes children don't have the same freedoms today.
