Monday's Weekend Recap....

Monday's Weekend Recap…

We had a wonderful time up in Georgia, visiting with my sister Tammy and brother-in-law Bruce. Bruce had a horrible stroke just before Christmas, and is home now and progressing well with home therapy and the gentle care of Tammy. She is so great with him! His major obstacle now is speech. He knows what he needs to say, but can't get the words out. It is frustrating for him and for Tammy, but they get it figured out. Tammy breaks it down and starts asking questions. Eventually, everyone understands. Bruce pointed to Tammy with a smile on his face and said "she gets it - she does it". They are looking forward to getting some outpatient therapy started soon, which will be a lot more intense. Bruce is working hard and is actually beginning to remember things that have happened, including remembering that he laid down on the floor when he started feeling 'funny' when the stroke started. No one knew if he fell or had laid down....now they know and he remembers!

Bruce's birthday was May 31st and Tammy's was June 5th.  We had a party for both on Saturday with Bruce's family, who all live fairly close to them.  Bruce has three daughters and a son, lots of grandkids and great-grands.  We had met them all before, so it was good to see them again.  They all make us feel like a part of their family.

Traffic going was good, but we did hit some rain.  Traffic home was good, with the exception of one very horrific accident that stopped traffic for awhile.  The wrecked truck we saw made us think there is no way anyone survived. Said a prayer.

The DELICIOUS strawberry cake, made by their daughter-in-law.

Bruce loved it....

.....as did everyone!

Great-granddaughter Sarah made a present for them.

She did an excellent job and Tammy hung it on the wall already.

I know and appreciate that many of you have been keeping Bruce on your prayers lists.  Thank you, and please continue the prayers for recovery.  Tammy can also use your prayers.  When we were leaving, I told Bruce he would be in my daily prayers.  Tammy responded that she needed them too (and she does!).  God bless caregivers everywhere.  It is such a hard job, especially when you love the person you are caring for, because of the extra emotional element.  Not easy, but a privilege and a labor of love.

Thanks for reading my post today!  I have some catching up to do but have today off so I will hopefully have some time to read your weekend news!  Peace & hugs!

  4. Good grief, that cake looks spectacular! So nice that Bruce enjoyed it, and such an answer to prayer that he is doing better and making progress - after all they'd been through! Have a great week, Terri.

  5. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. What a lovely gift (made with love) from Bruce's great-granddaughter and the cake is a work of art too! I know everyone loved seeing you, especially your sister. I can tell you two are related. Glad your journey there and back wasn't too bad. I hate seeing accidents even fender benders.

  6. So glad to hear about your wonderful weekend and the excellent progress he is making! Is he able to type or point? If so - - a keyboard on a laptop or phone if one is available - - or even word cards for the common things he needs to empower him and help them both have less frustration playing twenty questions. He does look very happy and Praise God for his excellent progress.
    Strawberry cake - - - YUMMY!!!!
No one has more catching up to do on blogs than I do!

  8. Thanks so much for posting about Tammy and Bruce. It's good to put faces with names, after praying for them. It's also good that Bruce is able to celebrate and enjoy another birthday, after such a serious stroke. I'll continue to pray for them both.
PS I'm also glad y'all had a safe trip to Georgia and back home again :)
