January brings us Polk County's Alafia River Rendezvous. It is put on by the local Florida Frontiersman Chapter, and takes participants back to the 1830s and is as authentic as can be. My friend, Teena, and her husband take part each year. Joe and I visited two years, though we didn't go last year. It is amazing to see and experience, but I would not be able to stay there for the week that they do! No thanks to the primitive camping, but Teena and her family (and hundreds of others) love it. Here are some photos we took during one of the "open to the public" Saturdays....
It is a small city - really. Everything you might need can be found there.
That is my friend, sitting in the yellow dress.
We will be leaving for for my sister's, in Georgia, tomorrow morning. She does not have wifi at her house, and I don't type well on my little phone keyboard, so I will be out of touch until we return on Sunday. I'm not even taking my laptop. Will catch up when we return! Your prayers are still appreciated. Bruce is not out of the woods yet. Thanks for stopping by! Peace & blessings.

It would be hard to really live back then. Have a safe trip to GA and prayers for Bruce. It is cold today!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing event. I'm with you, I would love to see it, but I'm not into roughing it.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping we hear good news about Bruce very soon. The rendezvous looks like fun, but like you, my primitive camping days are over. I used to love it. Now I want ensuite accommodations. LOL
ReplyDeleteI dont think I could live in that little city either. Where are the restrooms??? lol Be safe and will look forward to hearing how Bruce is, when you return. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteLinda, they have a huge fenced in area full of porta potties....one section for women and one for men. It is hidden behind fencing so it can't be seen in the camp. Not how I would want to live!! :)
DeleteSafe trip. Continuing prayers for Bruce and Tammy. Hugs to all.
ReplyDeleteNaturally the prayers will continue.
ReplyDeleteI remember someone sharing a video of a storyteller who was cooking at one of these events. If I remember correctly she was making corn bread over an open fire and talking about life in the pioneer days. I agree with you and the roughing it. We didn't mind at all when we were children, but our bodies now need to be comfortable. We'll be thinking of you and praying for your safe return.
I love going to those type of events but I couldn't stay there either.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels!
I love going to things like this. Feels like stepping back in time.
ReplyDeleteHope your trip goes well.
I would love to visit that, but I wouldn't want to stay for a week either. I love modern comforts way too much. lol
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great time in Georgia.
How fun, we like things like that. Keeping your sister & Bruce in prayer...stay safe!!!
