Tuesday Tidbits....

Happy Tuesday!

  • I'm excited to be getting a volunteer, at work, who has accounting and human resources experience. She will work four days a week, from 9:00 to 1:00!! I am beside myself with excitement, to have someone who can help me with some of the workload. I will also have someone to keep up with the work when I take time off! Yippee!
  • Joe was given a wonderful "goody bag" for his birthday, and one of the yummy things included was a jar of  Dulce de Leche, which we consumed on ice cream and in coffee. It was so good, that Joe found it on line and ordered two more!!  Creamy goodness!

  • We had a storm yesterday afternoon, just in time to leave work. The rain came down in buckets. Several us were waiting at the door, for a break in the rain that never came. Got a little wet getting to the car. An umbrella just doesn't keep you dry when the rain is that heavy and the wind is blowing. It's that time of year, here in central Florida.
  • I need to go get my flu shot this week. I want to get it before the flu season is in full swing. One co-worker was out all last week with fever, body aches and general nastiness. She called it the flu. I get a flu shot every year, and have had the pneumonia shot, too. If I can be vaccinated for something, I'll get the shot. I also got the shingles vaccine two years ago. Do you get a flu shot? Check this out, from the CDC:  http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season-2014-2015.htm  The older we get, the more careful we need to be!
  • I made an appointment for my annual eye exam, the first week of October. I got the news, last year, that I have cataracts starting. If there was anything that spells out to you that you are getting old, it is hearing that news! Sheesh! I guess I'll find out if they are growing, when I see Dr. Frates next month.
  • The motor that runs our pool's filtering system stopped on Sunday. Joe called our pool guy and he came by yesterday and fixed it for us. Thank goodness we didn't need a new motor. It was just a component of some kind that he could replace and the bill was less than $150. Could have been a whole lot worse!
That's enough boring news for today!! Thanks for peeking in! Wishing you a blessed Tuesday!!

  1. Such good news that you will have a 'helper' now and she can help you with all the work. You wear many 'hats' and her doing some will be a blessing. Now I dont know what that is that Joe got, but from the picture, I know I would love it. I even looked it up to get a recipe...lol Glad the repair to the pool wasnt as bad as it could have been and is all good now. Blessings.

  3. Yay for helpers!!! Try not to fret about the cataracts. Cataracts start to form from the moment we open our eyes outside the womb. It just takes decades for them to become an issue. A pharmacy offers the flu shot at the farmers' markets around here on Saturdays; that's where I'll get mine. I got my pneumonia shot way back in 1999. Stood in line for 2 hours for that one. Geesh....can hardly believe I actually stood for that ...LOL. Have a sweet day, Toots. Hugs

  4. Wow, a volunteer helper! That's great news.
We had the same kind of rain shower yesterday afternoon. We got over 3 inches of rain in just over an hour!
I got the 'cataract news' year before last. Bummer. The good news is, my hubby,Ed, had his cataracts removed last year, and he got along great, and can see so much better now!
    Have a great day :)

    1. My Joe has had both of his done, too, and doesn't use glasses anymore, except to read.

  5. It's great to have help when you need it. Bummer about the cataracts. This year, of course the year I turned 50, was the first year I failed the eye exam to get my driver's license. The clerk said she didn't even know what line I was reading. We all get flu shots too, especially with kids in the house. So much crap at school. I'm debating about the shingles shot. That treat Joe got for his birthday looks delicious!

  6. We lived in Orlando 18 years ago and had one of those lovely screened-in pools. That was great, like a large room just beyond the Great Room of our house.... except whenever it rained, the accumulated pollen on the screen would wash into the pool water and the pool turned an emerald green! Ha-ha!

    1. We keep a supply of "Yellow Out" in the pool supply cabinet! Ours has turned green a few times. We love our screened in area, especially when the great room French doors can be open in the winter....it's like the house grows so much extra room!

  7. I do love rainstorms, but not when I have to run out into them! I hope the eye doctor appt. goes well and that the cataracts are not growing! I've been noticing that I'm getting headaches, and it's been 2 years since my last exam. Time to schedule another.

  8. Congrats on getting a helper at work. We had a bad storm here the other night. I love storms as long as I'm not out in it. I have never gotten a flu shot although I probably should. A few years ago we all had the flu. It was bad. Have a great day!

  10. Glad you got some help at work. I depended on great volunteers when I was working full-time. I couldn't have made it without them.

I've never heard of Dulce de Leche--but it sounds wonderful... Bet it is good in coffee and of course, on ice cream... YUM.

You reminded me about my Shingles Shot. I had held off due to the cost --but now, my insurance pays a lot of it... NEED to do that!

I'm not scheduled to go back to the eye doctor until the end of next February --but I'm having trouble with my eyes. SO--I may have to go sooner than later.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. I like dulce de leche too, but it's easy to find in Spain. I would have thought it would be easy to find there too. I'm glad you didn't have to pay too much on your pool. Great that you're getting some help at the museum!

  12. Gee, and I thought that was chocolate pudding!! Congratulations on getting a helper. That's great.
I had my eyes checked last week, too and was told I have a small cataract in my left eye. :-( I already had a lens replacement in my right eye. I am also planning to get a flu shot. You're right. We are getting old. :-). Still young at heart, though.

  13. That's great news on the volunteer! I know what you mean about the cataracts. My husband has one that has started. I actually need to get my eyes checked, since I don't wear glasses I never really go. Although it can be a good time to get a fix and not have to wear glasses anymore. That's what my dad did 20 years ago. Glad the pump was just a repair, I know in our last house we replaced ours a few times. The Dulce de Leche sounds yummy.......
