Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 189
Here are the questions to this week's Hodgepodge. Answer on your own
blog then skip back HERE tomorrow to add your link to the party. See
you there!
1. On Thursday we pause to remember a dark day in history-9/11. Will you mark it in some special way? I always remember it, and the horror we all felt when it happened. I also remember how Americans circled the wagons, flags were raised in most every yard, and patriotism flourished. I'm only sorry it took such a tragedy to bring that about, and I'm sorry that it has all gone away. We're giving our country to the very terrorists who tried to take it away with that heinous act. One is even in the White House now. What happened?
2. Do you ever/still...listen to an actual radio? Watch a videotape (VCR)? Look up a number in a phonebook? Refer to a paper map while traveling? Set an alarm on an alarm clock as opposed to your phone? I listen to the radio in my car, and sometimes at home. We have a few VCR tapes left, but most were replaced by DVDs. We have an extensive movie collection, and do still have a VCR player. I don't have a phone book in the house anymore. We DO refer to paper maps when traveling, because the GPS doesn't give us a larger picture of our surroundings. I set an electric alarm clock every work night, and the phone alarm is my back-up, in case the power goes out. Silly, since I usually wake up before either alarm goes off.
3. Is it ever a good idea to discuss religion or politics with people you don't know? Usually, the answer is no, unless it is a politician of your supported party, or a clergy person, perhaps. I refuse to argue politics or religion. I don't try to change someone's mind, and they can't change mine. I'm a Christian and a Republican. If you aren't, I would just ask you to do some serious research! :)
4. What's a dish you haven't eaten all summer, but come September find yourself craving? Have you made it yet this month? Home made beef vegetable soup. I made a BIG pot of it Monday night, using leftover roast beef. We will enjoy it for dinner, for a couple of days, since it always gets better after it sits a day or so.
5. What's something you know nothing about? Quantum Physics. (Just for the record, there are LOTS of things I know nothing about!)
6. September is Classical Music Month. Do you like classical music? If so, what's your favorite piece? I'm not a huge fan of classical music, but can take it in small doses. I don't have a favorite, but do like Four Seasons, by Vivaldi
7. What's the oldest thing you own? Since we have given away or sold many of our antique pieces, it is probably my mom's cedar chest. It was a gift to her, from her parents, for her 1948 high school graduation. I treasure it, and it is at the foot of our bed.
8. Insert your own random thought here. Joe and I always watch "Sunday Morning", and have for years and years. We DVR it now, and usually watch it Sunday evening or Monday evening. Last Sunday, there was a spot about a singer I was not familiar with, but who I really like. I've put her in the line up on my Spotify, which I listen to at work all day. Check out Madeleine Peyroux. I love bluesy/jazzy music and think she has a great sound!
Thanks for reading my Hodgepodge answers today! I look forward to reading yours, if you participate (and many of us do!). Thanks to Joyce for another good grouping! Enjoy your hump day!! Peace & blessings!
I will check out that blues jazz music. I do love that and love to have it on in the background when talk radio is not on. Of course I like your answers, I did my research. :-) Have a wonderful Wednesday, Terri.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that we don't have a radio in the house. lol Usually I use my mp3 player, my phone or the tv music stations. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteOh, I do love her voice and soft jazz is my favorite. Do you like Dianna Krall? Her voice is similar and that type music is relaxing and calmer to me. I wont argue politics or religion with anyone, at any time. I am a Christian and a Republican, and to each his own. I do listen to the radio. Hope you have a good Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteYes, Linda, I really like Dianna Krall, too. You are right - very similar. It's "my" kind of music.
DeleteVegetable soup, and soup in general is not something I make in the summertime. About this time of year is when I get back to that though. I love homemade soup. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteWow, I bet that chest is really something. I love how some furniture really holds up over time.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to making a pot of vegetable soup, soon. I actually made a pot during the summer, using all fresh veggies from the garden. It was delicious!
ReplyDeleteI, too, wonder what has happened to our country! It's been headed in the wrong direction since 2008, with no end in sight :(
This month I've had some overloaded potato soup. I love soups and it's getting to be that kind of weather. Like you, i don't argue with people about sport, religion or politics. I may comment on social injustice though or crimes against children. Good post
ReplyDeleteGreat answer for #1 and I'm 100% in agreeance with you. How awesome that you have the cedar chest, that's a treasure. I have an extensive collection of DVR's too and seem to be buying more and more as the prices go down. They will be gone at some point because of streaming. Thanks for the song, I just bought it for my phone on Amazon!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could wake up before my alarms. I have THREE set and I hit snooze on all of them almost every morning.
ReplyDeleteGreat answers today, especially since we are together on numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5. GPS doesn't always have the updated information and so a back up plan is definitely a good idea. How cool that you have your Mom's cedar chest.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the Quantum Physics thing! lol
ReplyDeleteYou've got some great answers today (all of them are good). I like your ability to speak your mind (and the fact that I agree with you!!).
ReplyDeleteThat soup sounds fantastic!! I love soup.....and for the fact that you mentioned it gets better each day ---well, I'm drooling.
ReplyDeleteHomemade soup is the best. Funny how some foods are better the next day. I think the flavor is absorbed more. I remember when I graduated a local furniture store that sold Lane cedar chests gave us all a miniature one with a coupon. I wonder if many people buy them anymore?
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! You just reminded me of my grandmother's homemade vegetable beef soup. And I want some. NOW. LOL Love visiting the Hodgepodgers. Enjoyed your answers.
