Monday Madness....

Okay, my friends, I have nothing to report today. It's a normal day at work, and I've already reported on the weekend. I have been wondering what to blog about....

I'm going to tell you about one of my most embarrassing moments, and challenge you to tell me about one of yours.

It's been over 35 years ago. I was looking for a new job, because I was just divorced and needed something that paid a little better, and had a better career path, so I was going out on interviews.  I lived in Alexandria, Virginia, and was working in DC.

If you have gone on an interview, you know that you try to dress appropriately, have your hair looking good, make-up moderately applied, etc., etc.

I arrived at my destination, and rode up the elevator, to the floor I was told to report to, and then to the designated office suite. I was received well, and introduced to the woman who was doing first interviews. I thought it went okay, but as I was leaving, I knew the job wasn't one I wanted. I got back on the elevator, which was mirrored inside. It was "after hours" so no one else was on the elevator with me. I looked at myself in the mirror (couldn't help it), and was horrified to see one of those dry hanging-on boogers in my left nostril (yes I still remember it was the left nostril). Horrified.

Needless to say, they didn't call me back for a second interview. I would have turned it down anyway, but I have never been so embarrassed, wondering how long that thing had been there during the interview. Now, MAYBE it didn't show itself until I left the office, but I have a feeling it was present during all the questioning and answering. I didn't feel it arrive, it didn't make my nose itch.... Horrified.

So - now it's your turn.  Make me feel like my embarrassing moment isn't as unusual or as bad as I think it was.  Thanks for stopping by!! Hope I made you laugh! I can laugh about it now!!

  1. LOL, that is something we all hope never happens to us. Now mine........I was in my first year of nursing school and we were to give the patients on a certain floor their bed baths. You were to instructed to always keep the patient covered. My patient was an 80 year old black gentleman. Before I even started his bath, he needed the bedpan as he couldn't get out of bed. Again, keep him covered, so I used what was called 'a fracture bedpan', which is flatter than the usual kind. I was trying to slide it under him and keep him covered. He started hollering and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, so I just kept pushing. He screamed out again and said (forgive the language) 'you are gonna cut my balls off - stop'! I didn't have it under him, I was pushing in the wrong area. Talk about embarrassed...I thought I would die. Luckily, my instructor did hear him and didn't see what I had done. I am sure he told the floor nurse tho. I learned a valuable lesson that day.

  2. LOL!!! That sounds like something that would happen to me! Aren't you glad you can laugh about it now? Linda's story is so funny! OMG..I got the visual and I am still laughing..lol. I have so many embarrassing moments but one that comes to mind happened just last year. I had accidentally called my sister in-law while I was driving and she didn't answer so it went to her voice mail. Her voice mail recorded me singing Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell. It was on the radio and I was singing as loud as I could to it..haha. So embarrassing!

  3. I'm trying to remember..I'm sure there are plenty..just drawing a blank. Ohhhhhh...I was 21-22 and was in San Diego visiting my husband (was stationed there as a Marine). We had been drinking..he claims I was so out of it (I plead the 5th), I cursed out a MP, fell down a flight of stairs..the MP thought it was funny as I was barely 90 lbs back than, so he let me go. I'll plead the 5th (rolling eyes). Could you imagine if my parents had to be called? I have been on the straight and narrow since then. AGAIN, PLEADING THE 5TH.

    1. It seems you were "of age" and married, Linda. Those Marines were probably not surprised at all! (My first husband was a Marine, so I do have a point of reference!)

  4. new job, new school, grade ones, first day..... I had the class at the carpet and we were singing and dancing something like the hokey pokey when my half slip fell down around my ankles. I whipped it up and threw it at my desk and carried on. There were no adults in the room and the children never said a word as they were busy dancing. It still makes me blush.

  5. I've loved all of these. My worst happened at a friends wedding. There was a big staircase and my knee gave out as I was coming down the steps. That was it, I slid right down those steps in front of all the guests. Yikes!

  6. LOL at your booger story. I do embarrassing stuff every day but I guess my most was when we went to our 1st fossil hunt. It was in middle of nowhere. You had to climb down this muddy hill to get to it. Of course I hit a slippery spot and slid all the way down on my back. My hubby says I looked like a turtle on my back since I had a huge backpack on. The trip hadn't even started and I was covered in mud. And I mean covered. It was caked in my hair. I was a mess. No bathrooms out there so I had to spent the day covered in mud. My hubby reminds me of it at least once a month.lol

  8. Ohhh, I hate those kind of things when you find something after the fact. I always think back as to who I saw or spoke too.
I went out to eat with my hubby one night, all dressed up for a first night out without kids. I think I got food poisoning or something. After we were done eating, I started to feel ill. I ended up getting sick in the bathroom and telling my hubby we had to leave. As we were starting to pull out of the parking lot I had a sudden and fierce urge to have to use a bathroom. I couldn't make it and ended up going in the parking lot, behind my door with my husband blocking me. I couldn't help it!! Whatever bug I got was fast and furious. I was so embarrassed.

    1. Oh no!! Poor you, and what a sweet hubby to block you from view. You know....when you have to go, you have to go, and outside the car was certainly better than inside the car!! Thanks for sharing!

  9. Oh no, I'm laughing at all these moments! And guess what! My booger story happened the last time I got out of the hospital. I was wheeled down to my waiting friend, and said goodbye and thank you to the attendant as I climbed in the car. Then my friend told me to check my nose, so I looked in the mirror, and there it was. Horrifying!

I have an interview story too. I was in my early 20s and interviewed for an office job; I thought it was my best interview ever; I felt self-assured and had been able to laugh with the woman who handled my interview. I strode confidently out to my car at the end ... only to find I'd locked myself out. I had to slink back into the office and ask if anyone had a coat hanger so I could try to unlock the door. Of course, that ended the possibility of my working there.

  11. Like several have already commented, I've had lots of embarrassing moments. I've probably at one time or other mentioned that in Spain if you're in a bar or cafe and another person comes in, that person comes and stands next to you. Why I don't know because I don't. Well, this wasn't exactly the case in my story, but early one morning a friend and I were in a crowded bar having chocolate and churros. I was happily dipping my churro into my cup of chocolate (in Spain you can dip and sop) when the man next to me asked if I was enjoying it and I replied I was. He said, "Good! That's MY chocolate!"

Great idea you've had, Terri. These are all funny for us now. Oh, and it probably wouldn't be a good idea to sop up your gravy at a black-tie event, but in a normal situation everybody does it.

    1. Brenda, I have been known to dip and sop in public, but you are right that it isn't really something done here in the USA. So...did you finish the other guy's cocoa, and did you buy him a new one? Thanks for sharing!

  12. No, I gave him mine when it came.

  13. OMG....that is quite the story of embarrassment! I know I have several. I remember going outside to tell the newspaper boy something and didn't realize I had a green mud mask on my face :) I can't imagine what he was thinking.....
