The Day After....
Well, the big day is behind us now. I couldn't believe how quickly it got here this year, and now it is all over. Maybe I should feel sad, but I find myself wanting to take down the tree and get things put away. We won't do that until next week, but once Christmas is over, I really feel the need to put the house back in some semblance of normal.
We have a kitchen island full of nuts, cookies, and candy. We have given some away, but it doesn't look like it. So much will be thrown away. We just can't eat it all. It tastes so good, and looks so festive on trays, but no more visitors are expected. We will nibble for a couple more days, but then it has to go.
We had a lovely Christmas lunch with Helen and Cheryl. She made ham, mac & cheese, scalloped potatoes, peas, mixed veggies, cranberry jello salad, pickles....it went on and on, and was delicious. She sent some home with us, too. More food. Blessed to have plenty, so it isn't a complaint.
Our phone rang all morning long. We spoke with both of our boys, including Joey - all the way from Kuwait. We spoke with both of my sisters, we spoke with my grandmother and we text messaged with Joe's family and our gang down in Naples. It is always nice to talk with everyone, but I surely do miss having everyone here. Even granddaughter Lauren told me she remembers how much fun we had when they were little and came to our house for Christmas. Sigh.
I apologize for not checking in with your blogs. My intention is to get to that as soon as this is posted. I am having some issues with my back, and moving around is painful. My chiropractor is closed until Monday. I do okay just sitting, or just standing, but the getting up is so painful that I could cry. I cleaned out the kitchen pantry this morning, because I could do it standing up.
We have a little dinner party tonight, at Mike and Mary Ellen's house. I think there will be six of us, instead of the usual eight. Our friends, Fran and Bob, are up in Ocala for the holiday. It will be fun to see our friends and spend some time with them. We have no plans for New Year's Eve - never do, actually. We stay home and watch the ball drop from the comfort of our living room!
I'm excited to read your blogs and catch up with everyone! Thanks for stopping by my page today! Peace, love & hugs.

Sure hope you can get rid of what you're not going to eat rather than just throwing the things away. I had a wonderful day yesterday and sent some WhatsApp messages to friends who are away. It seems they were enjoying their Christmas pudding while we hadn't sat down to eat. Spanish people do tend to go to bed very late on Christmas Eve and on New Year's Eve, so, of course, they're going to start eating much later. As you know, it's still Christmas here until 6th of January. We have Christmas for a while!
ReplyDeleteHope your back feels better soon. Thankfully mine doesn't hurt today.
Terri, I am with you as to wanting to take decorations, etc. down and getting the house back in order. I didnt put up much so it make take me 10 minutes max! It is different since all the kids are grown and gone, but we made it through, so on to a new year of health and happiness. We stay home, safe and warm on New Years
ReplyDeleteEven..With as much meanness going around, wouldnt dare get out...lol
...and I meant to say I sure hope your back gets better sooner than later. I can relate for sure.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean... especially about the tree and all those leftover goodies. My house looks the same way. Maybe you can take the goodies to work and let your co-workers finish them off. Or if you have a shelter close-by.
ReplyDeleteWhen we had all the kids leaving here Christmas Eve, there were lots of shed tears. That was great you got to talk to your family members so far away thanks to our modern technology.
I hope your back pain lets up soon so you can enjoy the weekend.
I pray that your back gets to feeling better. My family lives in Ocala, think I already mentioned that. ANYWAYS..Hope you get to feeling better soon. Prayers. PS I like your new background here..very festive.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your back. Sure hope it is better soon and can be fixed with an adjustment. I have been packing up ornaments and decorations for the last hour. We had a WONDERFUL day yesterday but I, too, am ready to reclaim the house for normal living.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why - probably has something to do with wanting my house in order - but I want to put Christmas away too. I have so much out I need it cleaned. sandie
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a nice holiday. I am ready to put the tree away too. It takes up too much room lol Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that you're having such a time with your back. I hope you can take it easy and then get some relief from chiropractic on Monday. Glad you'll be home and not busy on New Year's Eve. That will probably help. Praying that you have less pain and a sweet post-Christmas week and weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas sweet Terri. I have gained weight and I need to get rid of some goodies around here too before I gain more. Your page is lovely...I love blue and this is just so nice. Thank you for all the nice comments you always leave on my blog. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the body pains. My legs are so much better but getting up and getting going the first 10 steps is a painful and embarrassingly awkward activity. I am better also if I just stay on my feet.
ReplyDelete...to be able to talk with a loved on who is in Kuwait must be a joy of a lifetime memory!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad your day was filled with love and good food.
Yep, I too am ready to disassemble Christmas decor and get back to normal. It's gonna be a rainy day, so today I just may begin.
