Sunday....

When I woke up this morning (at 8:30!!!), my first thought was that 'this time tomorrow, I will have been at work for over an hour already'....  Good golly, what happened to my time off??!!

After a nice big breakfast (really, brunch), Joe and I got busy and put the inside Christmas decorations, including the tree, all away.  The boxes have been taped shut and returned to the attic.  We still have outside decorations to put away, but it feels nice to have taken back the inside and cleaned up a bit.  I think this is the first time, ever, that the tree has been put away before New Year's Day.  It got here too fast, and with it being in the middle of the week, it just really feels over now. I know it should continue until January 6th, for the Epiphany, but I don't need the tree up to keep the reason for the season in my heart.

The 50th anniversary party we attended last night was very nice!  David and Jean have three children - two boys and a girl. Their daughter did all the food for the open house, and she also scanned and put together a video of 1,300 photos, documenting their life.  We watched 10 minutes of it and saw a section on pets, a section on birthday celebrations, and part of a section documenting how they bought the old farm house and did the addition and renovation.  I'm sure we missed most of it, but what a wonderful gift for them to have, and to add to.  Their announcement was in the newspaper this morning - also well done.  There were so many people there that it was hard to move about. The house is about a mile from the main highway, back a dirt lane that sees tractor traffic more than automobile traffic. They even had valet parking. It was a great tribute to their life together.

I cooked a turkey breast a couple of days ago, and pulled it apart in lunch-size bags and put them in the freezer. Yesterday, I made meatloaf....actually two. We had one yesterday and most of the second today, so I have meatloaf packaged and ready for me to take for lunch tomorrow. I like meatloaf, and make mine with oatmeal, rather than bread crumbs. Haven't had it for a long time. It turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself.

We have no plans for New Year's Eve, but I invited Helen and Cheryl to come for lunch, New Year's Day.  I have a roast to put in the crock pot.  I'm the only one who likes sauerkraut, so we won't be having the traditional pork, black-eyed peas and sauerkraut.  Do you have traditions for New Year's Day?

The Eagles vs Cowboys football game is on, and we are (of course) hoping the Eagles win. The last load of laundry is in the washing machine. Life is good.  It has been a wonderful Christmas break for me. Thanks for stopping by!! Wishing you a good week ahead!  Peace, love & hugs!

  1. Time off sure goes fast. I'm going to start taking down my decorations tomorrow, I think, or I hope I can get around to it. We usually have crab legs, shrimp and chicken wings for New Year's Eve. It's the only time during the year I buy crab legs and the kids love them! It's just the four of us and we eat, play a board game and watch a movie. I'd much rather stay home then be out driving to somewhere. Hope your day back to work is enjoyable.

  2. Glad you enjoyed your time off. How quickly time passes, especially when we're enjoying ourselves! Rather than have something special on New Year's Day, we usually have something special on New Year's Eve, plus the 12 grapes we eat at midnight after which I'll be happy to read until I can sleep (depends on how much noise there is outside).

Hope your Monday turns out to be an easy day.

  3. I am your new follower. So glad to meet you. We sure have a lot in common. I have been married for 32 years. I love to craft, read, blog, and Pinterest. I am not an accountant, but I am a bookkeeper and have been on and off for over 35 years. You mentioned DAR. When I was in sixth grade, I received the Junior American Citizen award presented by our local chapter of the DAR. I still have my pin of a little flag that says DAR in one direction and JAC in the other. It is so nice to "meet" you. I look forward to reading your blog every day. I hope you will stop over and visit mine at www.mamawsplace4.blogspot.com.

  4. I plan on un-decorating today on the inside, which wasnt much...the tree on the porch needs the lights removed and since it is one to be planted, we just need to move it off the porch to it's new permanent home. I love sauerkraut and black eye'd peas, and pork, but Jim cant eat anything salty so not sure what we will have instead. Hope the first day at work isnt too bad. We stay home, and safe and probably wont even watch the ball fall. We are old! lol Sleep is more important now days.

  5. I'll cook pork and black eyed peas on New Year's Day too. I guess if I had to get to work I'd likely want my tree down too. I feel like the week between Christmas and New Year is when I enjoy it the most, so I'm leaving it up until next weekend. Happy 2014!

  6. Sounds like you had a really nice week off. Haven't gotten our tree down yet. I am ready but hubby thinks it needs to stay up until New Years. Enjoy your week!

  7. You know what happened, time flies when you're having fun. :) Good thing your work is enjoyable. That'll make going back to work seem less icky. Hope you won't loss your job because of ObamaCare. So many more are going to be unemployed after Jan. 1st.

Our tradition of pork, black-eyed peas and sauerkraut has gone by the wayside. Now I'm just thankful to make it to another year. [lol]

I think I might undecorate tomorrow. I usually wait until New Year's Day but I'm tired of Christmas already. Probably because the retailers started before Hallowe'en this year. Good grief!

    Happy New Year!

  8. Wow! The anniversary party sounds very nice. The time off from work always go by way too fast for most everyone. I'm glad you enjoyed your's.
I also love meatloaf and I make mine with oatmeal too. A meatloaf sandwich the next day, with a big leaf of lettuce on it, is the best.
I used to do the pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day, but not anymore. I am going to cook up some pulled pork, but my stomach says I better not eat the kraut.
You take care. I hope you have a good work week ahead.
