I thought this background was kinda cute. I like frogs, and have a little collection of them. It all started with my involvement in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. I had a team and was team captain for seven years. Many of you remember me writing about it in previous years. I "dropped out" last year, but the team did attend Relay. I just got tired of pushing people to raise money, get involved, sign-up on line, etc., etc. We were the top fundraising "friends & family" team for three years in a row. I've decide I am too old, too cranky and too tired to continue with it. So, Jeremiah's Friends (as in Jeremiah, the bullfrog - our team mascot, and Jeremiah 29:11, which was the team's motto) exists no more. We always decorated with frogs, no matter what the theme of the event was. Also, FROG stands for Fully Rely On God... a little hidden meaning there. For my new friends, I am a cancer survivor, but lost my parents, my younger brother, and my two first cousins to cancer. Not a pretty family history, and a hated disease. Cancer sucks. Enough said.
On a brighter note, we are ready to head to Punta Gorda, FL, tomorrow, to see Tristan swim. His birthday is coming up, and so is his step-dad's. We planned to go down that way NEXT weekend, for a little birthday celebration lunch. Kathy suggested we just do it all tomorrow, since we will all be together. It will save us another trip next week (and gas money), so that's what we will do. I'm glad Tristan's birthday gift arrived yesterday! He likes to play Chess, and doesn't have a chess set. We got him a tournament set, that fits into a canvas tote, so he can even play on the beach if he wants to. Hope he likes it.
Not much else going on. I already wrote about the opening reception that is tonight. Joe will meet me here around 5:45, so we can hear the artists speak about their work. That starts at 6:00, in our auditorium.
Wishing you all a good first-weekend-of-autumn!! Thanks for checking in. Peace, love & hugs.

Happy Froggy Friday! I am one who didn't know about you being a cancer survivor. What a blessing!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a blessing, Julie. Found mine early (thyroid cancer) and I got my 5-year "all clear" almost 2 years ago. Thyroid cancer is one that they can actually 'cure'. The thyroid cells are different from other cells, and can be targeted with radioactive iodine, and they can also be found the same way. Blessed, for sure.
DeleteYour page is so darn cute!! Relay for Life is such a great event but you are right about the pushing for volunteers and for donations, it can become stressful. Have a wonderful weekend and good luck to Tristan!
ReplyDeleteI love your page! Reminds me of my little Tristen...he adores frogs and brings them into the house...the little green ones with red eyes. He calls them puppies. He has allergies and can't have pets. My daughter is always looking for them and putting them back outside. Once she found a dead one in his toy box.
ReplyDeletePunta Gorda is also special....in a previous life I bought a place there....I really miss it. Have a great weekend.
Your page is so cute. I went to Jelly Pages today too and there are some good ones there. Enjoy tonight and your upcoming trip. Go Tristan! Celebrating two birthdays is always fun, and Tristan will love the chess set.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gift for Tristan! I have a couple of frogs near my house plants. A froggy Friday to you too!
ReplyDeleteOne of my fave verses, so I snagged the graphic!

I also like your new page. It's so cute. I'd like to find out where you girls get your cute layouts.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about your and your family's struggle with cancer. Such a horrible disease. It's been in my husband's family too. We lost his mother exactly one month after our wedding. That lady was so strong. She attended our wedding in a wheelchair, she was so determined to be there. Bob was her 'baby'.
Oh, enough of my ramblings. I hope you have a great weekend with your family.
This page is from Jelly Pages. I can see the link for it at the top of my page....maybe you can see it too? If you just Google "blogger backgrounds" several sites come up. It's fun to play with them.
DeleteThank you Terri... I'm going to check them out.

ReplyDeleteHave a great time with your family today
I love frogs too! Poison dart frogs are my favorite because they come in so many pretty colors. :-)
