Dilated Pupils...

I left work early yesterday, for my annual eye exam.  I have been frustrated lately because after looking at a computer screen all day, when I start my drive home, I always notice that street signs are blurry.  My distance vision seems to be affected by focusing on closer work all day.  I am near-sighted, and read without my glasses most of the time.

I hate having my eyes dilated.  I did remember to put my sunglasses in my purse, so I didn't have to wear their ugly, free clip-ons.  I wonder how they can really get a good vision exam (reading the letters) with your pupils wide open, but I guess they know what they are doing.

So, I went in with my computer-vision complaint, hoping that a change in my prescription would fix it.  Well, my prescription hasn't changed (for two years, now), so that isn't the problem.  The doctor told me that she believes my eyes are just dry.  She noticed that they were dry during the exam, and that after sitting in the office with fluorescent lighting and the computer screen light, then having the air on full blast in my car, too cool it down (etc., etc.) is all causing dry eyes.  She gave me some sample drops to try twice a day, to see if that will fix the  problem.  I have progressive lenses, so the middle of the lens should be working for me, for mid-distance.

She did give me a prescription for just that mid-level vision.  My vision insurance does give me a pair of glasses for free, once a year, if I choose from a limited inventory of frames.  I told Joe last night that I may take advantage of that and get some "computer glasses" to wear at work - see if it helps.  They don't have to be pretty!

Anyway, while I was there (at the clinic) I went ahead and got my flu shot.  No one was waiting, so it only took about 15 minutes longer, and I was happy to have that done and over with.  I get a flu shot every year, and I know it has helped keep me healthy.  When others are sick, I've been able to avoid it.  I got my pneumonia vaccine a few months ago (every 10 years, they say), and also took advantage of my time there to get the Shingles Vaccine, too.  I've had a few friends (and Joe) get shingles, and I sure don't want to go through that pain and frustration!  The vaccine doesn't prevent shingles, but it makes it much less  painful and shortens the healing process.

Today is payroll day.  I got that done and ready for direct deposit on Friday.  Tomorrow, and Friday, I have to be in class for a few hours, for the new software.  Ugh.  I just want it over and working.  Each week gets us closer, but it will be a year (most likely) to bring everyone and every department on board with it.  Slow process.

Back to work.  Lunch is over.  Grocery shopping tonight.  Hope you all have a good evening!  Peace, love & hugs.

  1. I bet you were surprised when the doctor told you that you have dry eyes. I didn't know that would cause problems with vision. I hope the drops work for you. Getting a pair of glasses for when you are on computer is a good idea:-) Today was payroll for us too. Have a great evening, Terri!

  2. The very same thing happened to me, and my doc gave me drops to use. It does help me a little. I had my shingles shot about 4 months ago, and the pneumonia shot about 6 years ago. I also take a flu shot every year, and since I am going for my regular 6 months check next Wed. I am going to ask them to give it to me. Hope you have a nice evening.

    1. We have to be proactive about our health, Linda. It comes with that "senior citizen" tag, I guess. LOL My flu shot made my arm a little sore last night. Don't remember that from last year. Be prepared, anyway. It was fine this morning.

  3. My eyes itch if I read or stay on the computer too long. They're itching at this moment. Oh, how I hate having those drops put in my eyes!

  4. What was the name of the drops she gave you. They may be the same ones Old Man has to use all the time and if so I will try some of his. Systane.

  5. My eyes are the opposite Terri. I have watery eyes. They can get that way really fast. I have glasses, but choose not to wear them. Maybe occasionally while watching a movie, I might slip them on. I have long eyelashes, and they dirty up the glass very quickly. I'll probably get my flu shot next month when I'm at the doctors. Not sure if I can get the shingles shot yet.

  7. Hope the eye drops help with your vision. I had to go to the eye dr. this week as well. Needed new glasses since mine broke and are not fixable. I am bad about going to the eye dr. though. I haven't been in 5 years. But my vision didn't really change much anyway and I only use my glasses if I am driving at night or watching TV. It makes the details much clearer when I have them on. :) I've never had the flu shot before. I get it for my daughter though. Will probably get it for her when she goes for her physical her in the next two weeks if they have it available. She isn't going to like that. :( I've never had the chicken pox and I think there is a vaccine for it. i should probably get it along with the shingles shot as well.
