This is the month in which I lost my younger brother to cancer. My sister-in-law and nephew are already posting about it on Facebook. He died on August 29, 2003. It's hard to believe it has been nine years already. We all miss him. He was a fine man of faith, active in his church, and a good provider for his family. He worked hard to put himself through college, then worked hard in his own business to make sure his wife and kids were well taken care of. He left them with a beautiful home, newly renovated and redecorated, completely paid for. Money had been set aside for college, for both kids, and arrangements made through his business to continue to care for his family.
He had been fighting cancer for seven years, combined. After his first surgery, when they said they got it all and he wouldn't need chemo or radiation, he had three years of cancer-free worry. Then it came back with a vengeance. Don't ever let "them" tell you that you don't need chemo or radiation because "they got it all". Just don't believe it. That's my advice to anyone who has a cancer diagnosis. Be as aggressive as you can! My brother was only 48, and his kids were only 10 and 14. Sara is now 23 and graduating from college with a teaching degree. Michael has completed his first year at Ohio State, in pre-med. Because of faith and love, they came through losing their dad okay (though not without some bruises). But, praise God always.
Anyway, that was on my mind, and I thought I would make this my annual post, remembering my little brother. He is in my thoughts often, always with love and joy because I know where he is and that I will see him again one day.
Back at work today. Tuesday is my Monday, since I had yesterday off. It messes me up for the week, because I always think it's a day earlier. I've been a lazy slug at home lately. There is ironing to do - yes, Linda, I still have some things that require a steam iron! Since we had Tristan with us, I also didn't do any cleaning, so need to do a little each evening to catch up with that. Seems it is always a game of catch-up, though. Not sure I could function any other way!! LOL

It's never easy to lose a loved one and the emptiness is never completely filled. Prayers for you family as the anniversary draws near.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie, for your prayers!!
DeleteGod bless your family, Terri. Losing a family member is never easy and its good to have constant memory of them.
ReplyDeleteIt stays hard, faith makes it easier. Happy Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute to your brother! I know you are a woman of great faith and I know your faith is what will help you as his anniversary nears. Hugs to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteYour brother was a fine man and I know you miss him, as does his family. Sounds like you tho....everything in order and I envy people that can do that. Beautiful blog today my friend.
ReplyDeleteWithout that hope of a heavenly reunion, how could we survive such a loss?
ReplyDeleteYour brother was an excellent person to provide so well for his family. I am so sorry for your loss. It always seems like the really good ones are taken from us. This week has been confusing to me since the summer reading program has ended...everyday seems like Saturday or Sunday. I am enjoying having my grandson, Keito, visiting me until tomorrow and then I am expecting my family from Florida any time after he leaves.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone, for your kind words and prayers!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for your loss. It's nice that you have such great memories of him.
