Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 660
2. Your favorite patriotic song? They all give me goosebumps, but our National Anthem is first.
3. Red, white, or blue? Stars or stripes? Something you own besides a US flag with some combination of those colors or decorations as part of its design? I own many red shirts, quite a few patriotic t-shirts, and I like both stars and stripes.
4. What's one thing you want more of this summer: fun, rest, adventure, connection, quiet, or confidence? Elaborate. Fun, all year long. Summers in Florida are hot and humid, so I stay in where the AC is working as much as possible. Adventure can wait for Fall and cooler temperatures!!
5. What was your ultimate, go-to summer activity when you were a kid? Do you still do any version of that today? If you answered yes, does participating in this activity as an adult make you feel like a kid? I grew up in Ohio, at one end of Buckeye Lake. We spent as much time as possible outside. The older kid in me went to one of the beaches on the lake, or if we were lucky, Dad would give me the key for the boat, and we could anchor on the sandbar to swim. There were trees to climb, Nancy Drew books to read, woods to hike in, and railroad tracks to play balance beam on. No cellphones, no computers, just imagination and fun. No, I don't do any of those things now. Summer in Florida keeps me in the AC. I do miss a lake without alligators, though!
6. Insert your own random thought here. We are getting good rain every day! The pond at our clubhouse is filling up nicely!! Here is the picture I took yesterday on my walk. Below that is from April. Big difference!!
God Bless America -- Irving Berlin, 1938

Your national anthem is so special. It gives me goosebumps too and I'm not even American.
ReplyDeleteYour childhood sounds wonderful, what fantast memories.
Oh wow! That is a big difference in the pond compared to the previous photo!
I forgot all about Nancy Drew! Please send your rain up here, we need it, smiles. Wishing you a beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteYour childhood summers sound truly idyllic, Terri -- like something from a movie. I've no patriotic shirts ... or red, for that matter. 'Thinking that must change.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're enjoying a sweet day; we're that much closer to Autumn!
Hi Terri, this is my first time commenting, although I've been following your blog for quite a while. I had to respond to your #5 comment about reading Nancy Drew books.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that, at 75 years old, I still pick up a Nancy Drew book whenever I'm not feeling well. They're such an easy, comforting read, and they take me back to a simpler, less hectic time in life. A few years ago, my husband surprised me with a complete set for my birthday, and it remains one of the most thoughtful and treasured gifts I've ever received.
Thank you for reminding me that you're never too old to enjoy a good Nancy Drew mystery!
I LOVE that you got the complete set!! I had 52 when I graduated from high school. My two younger sisters got them. I am sure they are long gone. I really need to look for a couple of them. I agree!! We are never too old for a good - wholesome - mystery!!
DeleteWow, Terri, you have been getting lots of rain and I'm so happy for you! All the things you mentioned were the activities I remember doing in the summer. Those were such innocent and care-free times, for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe pond is looking good!
ReplyDelete#4 - Yes, Yes, Yes!! Good to hear you're getting rain, with this heat nature needs it. Happy 4th!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shocking difference in the two lake pictures!! We watch the weather forecasts all the time (literally). Here in Ocala we get extremely little rain while it pours north, south, east and west of us. It's like we are under a dome of protection. Must be a jet stream thing or something.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, dear Terri! The reflections in your first photo are captivating! We are in a heat wave here in Montreal, Canada. Today, July 1st, is Canada Day!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing, dear friend, and a very Happy 4th to you!
Happy 4th - I am glad you are getting rain - we need some.
ReplyDeleteI have to say every time I see a flag blowing, I tear up!
The pond is sure filling in! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteWow what a difference some rain makes for that pond. It looks nice now.
ReplyDeleteThe pond is looking good! No gators and no sharks on our lake which definitely lands in the pro column : ) Excited to finally meet in person...see you soon!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your answers. I lived in northern Ohio til I was in 4th grade, and then we moved to the west coast.
