Tuesday 4...

Thanks to Annie for today's Tuesday 4 questions!  You can join in HERE!

Home Sweet Home

Welcome to Tuesday 4 where we ask 4 questions each to get you thinking, blogging, and getting to know your fellow Bloggers!  We do this in memory of Toni Taddeo who founded it and who was so beloved by so many.

This week, let's talk about your home town or home state.

1.  What was your hometown like?   Or home state or both!  I grew up in Ohio.  When I was 10, we moved to Millersport and I consider it my home town.  It is a very small farming community.  I think there are less than 1,200 people there, still today.  It is located at the western end of Buckeye Lake where we enjoyed boating, swimming, and in the winter we ice skated as soon as the lake froze!  This picture is from my senior year, yearbook.

2.  Did you enjoy where you grew up?  Yes.  Why?  Well, first of all, I didn't know any better! But there is something to be said for knowing nearly everyone in town.  We didn't have to lock our doors, ever, and you could leave the car keys in the car.  All the moms knew all the kids so none of us could get away with doing anything 'wrong'! LOL  This picture is the house I grew up in.

3.  How much did where you grew up shape you?  I think, to this day, I can be a little too trusting.  I know that I love being social with my neighbors and back home we ran back and forth in everyone's homes.  Our neighborhood had a BIG July 4th pot-luck picnic that sometimes seemed like the entire town was there.  I love knowing my neighbors and socializing with them.

4.  What were some of the best and worst things about where you grew up?  Looking back from where I am right now, as mentioned above it was a great way to grow up.  I liked it. I loved school and I made lifelong friends who I still see and hear from, 50+ years later.  I would not want to go back to Ohio or any state where it is cold, snowy, and icy in the winter. Florida has spoiled me.  My school was small and we had kindergarten through grade 12 in the same complex.  We didn't have the advantage of some academic offerings that kids in bigger cities and schools had. I wanted to take drafting but wasn't allowed to, for instance. Only boys could take drafting. Part of that was the times, though.

Peace & hugs!

  6. What a nice town. Love the house y'all grew up in too. I'm with you and the cold, snowy, and icy comment. I don't mind visiting it, but no thanks with living in it 24/7. I'm from Central Florida and admit to being spoiled by nice temperatures. And I like where we're livin' now. Very laid back, friendly, and mostly good temperature days. Oh yeah. *giggle*
    Blessings. xx

  7. Millersport's Fourth of July sounds like a scene from a Hallmark movie! That's sad about your not being able to take Drafting; how silly some of those olden rules, huh? If memory serves, boys at my high school weren't allowed to take Home Ec.

  11. Oh, I love your house, with a porch swing and lots of interesting windows and gables. I love big old houses like that. Your hometown and neighborhood sounds perfect to me. Your school was a lot like mine, grades 1-12 all in the same block. No kindergarten yet when I was there. We were very trusting and never locked our doors or our car doors either back in the day. People respected each other's property. Parents looked out after each other's kids too, and so did the teachers. Even the ladies who worked at the soda fountain in the drugstore would tell on us if we got too noisy or rowdy in there after school. LOL. Those were happy times...much simpler living then. No internet or cell phones. We learned out to play outside and that's where we stayed until dark! But yes, I prefer Florida to freezing, snowing blizzarding winters. And I think you still know all your neighbors and are very friendly with everyone! I enjoyed your post. I'm not sure our school even offered drafting to the boys either, let alone the girls!
