Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 307
1. May 17th is National Pack Rat Day. Sidebar-should we be
celebrating this? Hmmm...
Are you a pack rat? Not really. LOL Even if you're not a full-fledged pack rat, most people have one thing or another they struggle to part with. Tell us what's yours. Clothes. Joe gets a new shirt and he takes one to the local shelter. I get a new blouse or top and nothing old goes anywhere. I did a huge purge and still need to purge. When I retire, I'll find it easier to let some things go. I promise. Seriously, I will. Shoes and purses too. Honestly.
2. What are two things you know you should know how to do, but you don't? Gosh, I can think of things I would LIKE to know how to do but can't, but I really can't think of anything I SHOULD know how to do and don't. There are things I know how to do, but don't want to do...
3. Do you crave sugar? No. Do you add sugar to your coffee and/or tea? To tea but not my coffee. Do you use artificial sweeteners or sugar substitutes? We use stevia. When dining out is dessert a given? No. I'm usually too full for dessert. Are you someone who has slain the sugar dragon, and if so tell us how you did it. I don't crave sugar but I do crave salty, so the dragon hasn't been slain...he is just a different dragon.
4. What's a trend it took a while for you to come round to, but now you can't imagine living without? Well, I need to reach way back for this one. I HATED Windows when it came out. I was all about DOS and could even program and write menus. Ha! Perhaps now Facebook would qualify...or Blogger.
5. What's a song that reminds you of a specific incident in your life? Ricky Nelson's Travelin' Man. Please elaborate. That is the very first popular song I remember being enamored with. I was nine years old (1961), had that season pass to the swimming pool and the teenage girls played it over and over and over while standing around the juke box and snack stand. As a "tween" I was very aware of the older girls (and boys) and what they were doing at the pool. I hear that song and can smell the chlorine and almost taste that frozen Milky Way candy bar on a stick (5¢). Years and years later (early 1980s) I saw him in person at Hershey Park (Pennsylvania). He was one good looking man. Wow.

I'm still tired from the long weekend. The older I get, the harder it is to bounce back without some down time. Sigh. We have dinner out with friends tonight, had dinner out with friends last night and have dinner out with friends on Saturday night. I love the friends and love having dinner out so don't get me wrong... I just need some down time and might get it on Sunday. Memorial Day weekend we will be at our nephew's wedding in Pittsburgh. At least I'm not doing the driving!! Now that's a real plus!! Retirement is coming!!
Thanks for your Hodgepodge visit today! Happy hump day! Peace & hugs.

Retirement is indeed coming, Terri, hang on, smiles. Enjoyed your Hodgepodge. Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteYes, retirement is coming, and after a while you will wonder how you ever found time to work! But, it's okay to take time out to just do nothing for awhile. Sounds like you are about due for some down time. I'm getting antsy after a year and a half of retirement...and wanting to find something to do and someplace to go...it comes in cycles. I loved your answers above. Loved Ricky Nelson too...and the whole family on TV. I guess I am a bit of a pack rat...and I am trying to curb that tendency a bit...w/o much luck. We just started cleaning out my MIL's house, and I now have MORE stuff to figure out what to do with...Yikes. Enjoy your week...and try to rest in between the dinners out! LOL
ReplyDeleteRetirement will be here before you know it.
ReplyDeleteI try very hard not to be one but I live with 2 packrats. Every year we have a yard sale and wonder how did we get so much stuff.
Have a great day!
I think you should expand upon that 'what the older boys and girls were doing at the pool.' Or maybe tell their parents. LOL I could just see the scene and hear the music, Terri. Fun answer to that. I wish i could get Mr. C. to adopt Joe's plan when buying a new shirt. Yikes. You don't want to see his closet.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED Ricky Nelson and you're so right about the memories that come up with songs from those years. Sweet times. Now about Windows! Yes, DOS was it and I struggled to get past using WordPerfect at the law firm. And really, I do find it hard to believe that you will get rid of those things! Haha. It took me 8 years to clean the business suits out of my closet! What if I go back to work? No chance! Fat chance anyway of ever getting into the suits and especially with those padded shoulders!
ReplyDeleteI loved Ricky Nelson too, even before he became a rock and roll star. I loved watching Ozzie and Harriet and had a crush on Ricky at a very young age! You are one busy lady these days, hope you get some much needed rest Sunday!
ReplyDeleteAh, Ricky Nelson. Always wanted to see him in person. Especially when I was 9 or 10 and had a crush on him. Hang in there for retirement. Like others have said, I don't know how I had time to work. I'm on my second year now and love it. Hope you get some rest soon.
ReplyDeleteAlways liked Ricky, and hadnt thought of him in ages. Thanks for reminder. As for having to rest more and more, just wait til you are my age. I rest in between chores and never used to do that at all...lol
ReplyDeleteTell me again what your retirement date is. I am thinking either the end of this month or next. Are you starting to feel like a kid at Christmas? It's exciting and almost difficult to wait for the actual celebration day.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is really enjoying not working and rarely thinks about it! I love having him home and the stress being gone from his waking hours.
Not until the end of July, Lynda, and then I am actually "on call" as a consultant through November. We're in a transition phase here and they may need help with some things that require a history with the museum. I'm fine with that.
DeleteWell at least the end is in sight. It was good for my husband to transition out rather than just go "cold turkey".
DeleteI loved your song memories :)
ReplyDeleteHang in there, retirement is coming, and you'll love it :)

A frozen Milky Way! I haven't had one of those since I was a girl riding my bike to the swim club : ) I'm working to keep balance in my week too. With company every weekend, Mondays devoted to clean up and Thursday-Friday to prep, I look for rest mid week. Today I needed to find a dress to wear to a wedding in June and that took all day. Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteJuly will be here before you know it!
ReplyDeleteI liked Ricky Nelson too. Isn't it interesting how music can take you back in time?
Your answer to question 2 had me giggling!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are DRIVING to Pittsburgh??? We haven't done a long road trip in ages. We do two and three-hour drives often, but not all day trips. You'll be just three hours from here when you're in Pittsburgh! But we'll be busy that entire weekend with family here.
I'm sure that retirement can't come soon enough Terri. Lots going on for you as always.
ReplyDeleteI really hear you about needing down time. My problem is when I can get some. Chris Sale has turned out to be a huge plus for my beloved Red Sox. I'm sorry that your Phillies aren't lighting up the score board like years before. Watching them is still fun I'm sure. During the wilderness years I still watched the Red Sox in the hope that they'd at least win the game I was watching. Hope springs eternal in the heart of a baseball fan. Have a wonderful weekend.
