Weekend Recap on Monday.....

Happy Monday after Matthew!  I sure had a nice long four-day weekend and we were blessed that Matthew missed us. Too many people weren't so lucky and my heart goes out to them.  Not to belittle it, but it sure could have been so much worse.

Our local newspaper says it all....

Let's see, I blogged about Cheryl's birthday dinner on Thursday, so I'll start with waking up on Friday morning to learn that Matthew had moved farther offshore and we didn't even get tropical storm winds and rain. We did stay glued to the weather channel, though, watching it travel north toward our son's house in Georgia, more friends at Myrtle Beach, and on to Charleston where blogging friend Pam was hunkered down.  So happy that damage was minimal and no one was hurt.

Saturday Joe worked on a client's books while I did some cleaning. The pool deck was filthy from all the rain and pollen so I hosed it down.  It still needs to be pressure washed but at least the cats aren't tracking in roof dirt and pollen.

We spent a good part of the day in front of the TV, though. We finished marathon watching Bosch and have been working on The Mysteries of Laura.  All good.

I ordered from Amazon an Instant Pot pressure cooker, which is also a slow cooker, a rice cooker, and has quite a few pre-programmed options for cooking most anything. I was excited to find a whole bunch of Pinterest boards for Instant Pot recipes so have started collecting some on my Pinterest.  I've always been afraid of a pressure cooker because of the one my mom always used when she was canning vegetables from the garden and we had to be so careful when the pressure valve would start clanging.

I'm happy to say that this electric cooker is SO easy to use!  I'm really impressed.  The first thing I tried was a rump roast. It took 45 minutes and came out moist and tender and cooked perfectly. There is enough for dinner tonight....score!!

As always, I also got the laundry done yesterday.

Not from the weekend, but I wanted to share....  A long-lost friend/co-worker from almost 20 years ago connected with me on Facebook a couple of weeks ago.  Eden was our Curator when I first started working at the Museum.  She left a couple of years later and is now out in California.  Before she left, she went around taking pictures of staff and she posted this one of me on Facebook last week.  The computer on my desk sure dates it for us.  The woman sitting in front of my desk in Cindy, who was my accounting assistant.  She lives in Mississippi now and we have stayed in touch on Facebook.  Anyway, everything changes and nothing changes in 18 years or so.....

That's all I have for you.  I hope you had a good weekend and if you were in Matthew's path, I hope you stayed safe and that you didn't experience too much damage.  Thanks for your visit!!

Peace & hugs.

  1. So glad that the Hurricane did not do as much damage as expected. Our family in Savannah are fine just no power but they have generators.

  2. So glad y'all had a 'nonevent.' :) Charleston county is so big that there were some folks who got water in their homes and trees on their houses. The only super bad stuff I've seen so far here was on Edisto. I'm grateful we didn't get anything like that.

  3. I'm glad that Matthew was a nonevent for you.

I am scared of pressure cookers too. I'm glad to hear that they updated them and made them safer.

    Mmmm that roast looks yummy.
    Have a great week!

  4. Wow! So glad you and your family are fine and that "Matthew" was non-event for your part of the state. You've already seen my news on that here in Marion county, and we "dodged a bullet" according to our paper...but I know God pushed the storm further away from our coast as a direct response to many prayers!!! Praise God. Your "Instant Pot" looks very interesting. I'd like to learn more about that. I've never heard of that one before. I miss my pressure cooker, but haven't gotten around to buying a new one...this things sounds intriguing. Keep me posted on how it works for other stuff. Blessings to you today!

  6. I'm so glad for you that the hurricane was averted and your weekend was fairly uneventful. I remember my mother's pressure cooker doing all that jangling and hissing, so it's nice to know they are safer now. Love the pic of you from way back when!

  7. I recall as a child my mothers pressure cooker exploding. Pork and Saurkraut over the ceiling and everywhere. We were blessed no one was injured. Still don't know why it went off, but ever since had no interest. This one appears safe, so may consider.

  10. Grateful that Hurricane Matthew was a non-event for y'all. It would have been the same here too if we hadn't lost power for 36 hours. Other than that and yard debris, we got off light though. Prayers for all those still picking up the pieces.
I started using spreadsheets on computers when they where all DOS (remember that?!) and they weighted a ton or two. Wow, we are dated.
The roast looks scrumptious. Pork is one of my favorite vegetables. *giggle* ~:)

    1. I loved DOS and fought Windows when it came out. I could program in DOS and build menus...been using computers since the early 80s. I remember REAL floppy disks. They were 8" and the ICUs had to be up off the floor and air conditioned. Those were the days. Lotus 123 in DOS. Yep.

  11. Oh, mercy, that pot roast looks awesome. I'm gonna check into the pressure cooker. I have one that I think Mom and Dad got for us with the rocker on the lid, but this one does look safer. Love the little video of the explosion!!! ;-)

  12. I looks like several of us have similar memories of pressure cookers! Guess I'm going to have to research the difference between your pressure cooker and crock pots. (I know, I know ... I talk about downsizing, but I adore gadgets!)

Ah, the Lakeland Ledger. My little old (former) MIL and FIL used to supplement their SS income by delivering that paper! :)

  13. Chalk me up as another who has always been afraid of pressure cookers...we had one blow when I was a kid. What a mess! I watch those infomercials now, though, and keep thinking "I've got to get me one of those!"

    Glad everyone is okay!

  14. Terri, I'm glad that you are safe and sound. We had a lot of rain and some wind from the hurricane but not as much as when we lived in NJ & hurricane Sandy.

  15. It was good news to hear Matthew didn't come your way! I kept the TV on all day listening for updates. Eventho I wasn't in the path I had several blogger friends who were! I have always been afraid of pressure cookers too, my sister-in-law used hers all the time, didn't scare her at all! The roast sure looked yummy!
