The weekend has put us past the halfway mark in October. Where does the time go?!!
We had a good weekend. I already mentioned lunch with my coworkers on Thursday. Friday I got together with Cindee and Shirley for lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant, Peking House. They were really crowded and the waitstaff was busy, so I didn't ask them to take a picture of us. I did get a shot of the restaurant as I waited at a traffic light, headed back to work. You may recall that Cindee is my friend with Parkinson's Disease. She had the electrodes and pacemaker done a couple of months ago and it worked great for her, then the pacemaker stopped working. She had another surgery to replace it a couple of weeks ago. It is working great and she feels really good!! Praise God!
Right next to Peking House is this dress shop. We always stop as we walk to the parking lot, to comment on the "dresses". I'm not sure who their customers are, but these dresses all look like they belong on the street corner. Young women should be ashamed to go out in public in these things! Oh my goodness!! Skin tight and very revealing. I guess in this sometimes less than moral very liberal culture we find ourselves in, I should not be shocked.
We had an artist talk at the Museum Friday evening that Joe and I were planning to attend, but neither of us felt like going back out after I got home. Earlier in the day, our gift shop had a "trunk show" with a local jewelry artist (from Orlando). I went down after she got her merchandise set out to look and really wasn't feeling it. Her things are kind of clunky for my taste. She uses organic matter and somehow gets it electro-coated with copper. A few pieces were nice, but most of the necklaces were over $300. I'll be interested to hear if she sold anything to our patrons/visitors.
Saturday, we wanted to go to the Farmer's Market and then walk through the classic car show that was happening all over our downtown area. Many of the streets were closed off for it. We had to park a couple of blocks from the Farmer's Market, which made it a long way to the first part of the car show. We picked up tomatoes, green peppers. and some cucumbers then looked ahead at the crowds. We decided my knees would not make it back to the car if we ventured closer to the car show. Joe wasn't as disappointed as I was to miss seeing the cars. I really enjoy classic cars. My favorite is the 1956 Thunderbird - turquoise (picture from the internet). If I ever win the big lottery, this baby will be my ride!! LOL
Here are some shots of the Farmer's Market and then of the crowds for the car show....
I love these Adirondack chairs!
And here are shots of the crowds at the car show....
The Mustang corner.....
If you click the photos to enlarge them, you can see more detail of the crowds in the distance.
Our newspaper yesterday morning had a big article on it....
Lakeland has a Zombie Fest every year too. It was at the airport this year because the car show took over downtown. We have never gone or participated, but the younger set really gets involved. It's a little too macabre for my taste....(from our newspaper)
Yesterday, we decided to go see a movie. Haven't done that in a few months. It was a toss up between Sully and The Accountant. We picked The Accountant and were very happy with our choice. It's a really good movie. It won't be for everyone. It is violent and has some bad language (though not as bad as some) and some very interesting twists and turns. The only thing really bad was two couples sitting in the row behind us who talked out loud to each other through the entire movie, commenting on each little thing. One of them left their phone on and it rang twice. Very distracting and rude. They are old enough to know better...looked like they were in their 50s. What is wrong with people?
When we returned home, I kept the laundry going. We had leftovers for dinner, which made that really easy. Saturday evening I made a cabbage and smoked sausage dish that we both really like and there was enough for Sunday (along with leftover pizza from Friday night).
HERE is the link for the cabbage and smoked sausage recipe. It is really good!
That was my weekend. Hope you had a good one too! Thanks for your visit! Peace & hugs.

Oh that blue Thunderbird...I would love to drive that around Decatur!! And of course you had to see The Accountant as you know all the inside workings of that job!! As for clothing these days, it is hard to find something that is modest and cute for nanas. :) Have a good week Terri.
ReplyDeleteUgh I hate when people talk during movies. I want to see The Accountant too. Looks good.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
I'm right there with you on the fashion comments! Anymore, when I buy clothes, I keep in mind that I will need to be able to wear them for a long time because I am hard to please and fashions are crazy. (i.e. nothing too faddish)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that blue thunderbird is to die for!! lol I would much rather roam the Farmer's Market than shop at the dress shop! I love jewelry but I like smaller, simpler pieces. Some ladies can wear the chunkier pieces and look great, but not me. Enjoyed your post as always, hope you're having a great day!
ReplyDeleteWhat is wrong with people, indeed! That's one reason I don't bother going to the movies anymore. Rude people. I love that y'all get out and about so much. I tend to sit at home and I've got to change that. I love our farmers' market (the one downtown) but I just don't get down there. It's more fun to go with others and I don't always think about getting the lovelies together to go.
ReplyDeleteYou guys find something interesting to do all the time. We were talking with our friends about this. We need to look up some ideas around here for day trips.
ReplyDeleteReally, I thought the employees were supposed to be on the lookout for people with phones on and ushering them out. That is so rude! Your day at the car show and the farmer's market look really fun. I'm so glad for your friend Cindee for her improvement. That's wonderful!
I bought a chunky piece of jewelry which I really think is pretty, but when I wear it, it feels weird because I'm just not used to it.
And thank you for the recipe. You read my mind on that one as I was going to ask for it.
DeleteHer designs are pretty, but they are heavy and have prongs and ends that would just catch on everything...including my double chin!! LOL
DeleteI didn't put green peppers in my cabbage dish, and we put Sriracha sauce on after cooking. I like mine spicier than Joe likes his.
I know, these modern dresses are shameful! I have to get mine from Cracker Barrel or some place that sells clothing for adults. *cough* I wouldn't care for the Zombie festival either. That's kinda weird. I could do the car show. Cool T'bird. That's more my speed. Hope your day is blessed. ~:)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a busy weekend...The turquoise t bird caught my eye right away...my favorite. Had a boyfriend once who had one like that. He also had a St. Bernard Dog, which rode in it with him...there wasn't much room for anyone else! LOL. The sausage and cabbage dish looks great...we do sausage and cabbage frequently, but I never thought about adding the green pepper and tomatoes, etc. Just cabbage and smoked sausage, and we usually eat it with mashed potatoes. I may try adding the other stuff next time. That looks more interesting! The dresses in the dress shop...that's why I haven't bought a new dress in a LONG time...they just don't make them for us mature ladies. I'm glad I really don't wear dresses much anymore anyway since I am retired and our church is a home church in our home, and we dress casual...so my dresses are collecting dust in my closet...and are out of style anyway. I may have to take up sewing again. Thank you for your newsy post. It was fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun but BUSY weekend! That Farmer's Market looks beautiful! Wish ours was as plentiful this time of year!!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed catching up with you today. Ed loves classic Thunderbirds, too, while I prefer the newer style from a few years ago. We'll never have either, I'm afraid :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the dress styles. There's no modesty for some.
Glad you enjoyed your movie outing, since you missed seeing the classic cars.
Have a great week!

I totally 'get' where you're coming from about those dress shops. For instance, my boss is a trim, (really) lovely person -- but she wears these short, short skirts that barely cover her 'woo-hoo.' The lady is 61 y/o!
ReplyDeleteWe came soooo close to choosing to see The Accountant (v. Girl on a Train). Next time!
I've never tasted cabbage and sausage, but it sounds like the perfect 'something different' for our October table. Thanks for publishing the recipe!
Love the Thunderbird! Our little car is in storage, and we're missing it right now as this is the best convertible weather. Soon : )
