This Week's Hodgepodge.....

Thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for posting this week's Hodgepodge!  There won't be one next week because she and her hubs are finally moving into their new home!!  Awesome and exciting! For this week, though, we can carry on with the Q&A and Hodgepodger link up.

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 285

1. Besides your very own house, describe a place where you feel most 'at home'?  Since my folks are long gone now, I guess my office at work, where I have spent many, many hours over these past almost 20 years.

2. When did you last 'hit a home run' with something? Explain.   Since my annual audit was just presented to the Board of Trustees for approval, I guess I can say this week. The audit went smoothly back in August and they only found one adjustment that needed to be made (and that was actually from last year).  It was passed and there weren't any questions.  Home run!

3. Tell us about something you love in your house or kitchen that is 'homemade'.  A very precious treasure is a plant stand that my dad made when he was a teenager, out of a table leg from an old family table that was being tossed.  It is warped now, and has to have a shim to keep it level, but I wouldn't get rid of it for anything!  It is in our guest bedroom right now.

4. 'A man's home is his castle'...which of the world's ten most captivating castles (according to The Travel Channel) would you most like to visit and why-

Mont Saint-Michel (France), Edinburgh Castle (Scotland), Neuschwanstein Castle (Germany), Glamis Castle (Scotland), Windsor Castle (England), Chateau de Chambord (France), Hampton Court Palace (England), Prague Castle (Prague), St. Michael's Mount (England), Leeds Castle (England), and Swallow's Nest (Ukraine)

Oh my. Visiting an honest-to-goodness castle has always been on my "bucket list".  I've visited some mansions that were almost like castles, but never a REAL castle.  So sign me up for any and all of those listed (especially those in Scotland and Germany).

5. What's a recent or upcoming plan or project that's required you do a little homework before getting started? Did the homework cause you to abandon your plan or adjust it in some way?  I won't be abandoning our move to a smaller home because it is a necessity for us while I am preparing to retire.  I've been doing 'homework' online and we have been visiting 55+ communities here in Lakeland. We are getting closer to contacting a Realtor....

6. In your opinion, is homework an unnecessary evil or a valuable practice?  It was never cumbersome or hard for me.  I think it is valuable in that it teaches discipline.  Should schools be done with homework?  No...  Why or why not?  ...because it teaches discipline.  I think some teachers go overboard with it, though, from what I see going on with some of my co-workers' kids.  It shouldn't take five or six hours to complete.  Family time is too important and there is little enough of that these days.

7. Share a favorite memory of your childhood hometown.  Oh my goodness, there are too many to even start listing.  Summers were the best in a small Ohio town when your best friend lived across the street.  We had woods to explore, neighborhood ballgames to play, swimming in the lake, boating on the lake, sleeping outside in homemade tents and eating an entire batch of no-bake chocolate cookies, climbing into the treehouse (platform) to read the next Nancy Drew book..... (I know I was blessed.)

8. Insert your own random thought here.  It sure does feel like time if flying faster and faster these days!  Do you feel it?

Thanks (always) for your visit today!  Happy Hump Day!  Peace & hugs.

  3. I said a similar thing about homework; if it's the correct amount, it can be really useful and it does teach discipline. You can't just turn your brain off once the school bell rings!

  4. Yes, I do feel like time is going faster and faster! Just wait until you retire, it'll catch a faster gear, too.
Best wishes with finding your next home. Before long, you'll be moving, too...
I agree with your thoughts about homework.

  5. Enjoyed your Hodge Podge. The place I grew up holds no good memories. My current home is my 'home town' now until I'm in Heaven with my precious LORD and Savior.
Hope your day is blessed. ~:)

  7. So glad your audit went well, Terri, but that doesn't surprise me. I hope all goes well with choosing a new home. It sounds exciting, but maybe partly because we've been in the same place for 27 years, not that I'm complaining. Your childhood sounds great, as mine was. It's wonderful to have such good memories.

  10. I agree time flies unless we're talking elections. In that case it seems to be dragging on forever! Good luck with your search for a new home. I imagine there are some great options in Florida since so many people choose to retire there. Have a great day!

  11. Time really is flying by but I'm working on slowing it down by paying attention. No, it doesn't work because time is still going to fast. LOL Sounds like you and Joe are right on target with the retirement/moving thing. I know you'll be glad when you have the option to sleep in. :)

  12. Congratulations on a good audit, I know this can be stressful. Best wishes on your search for a retirement community, Florida has some great options. I agree with you that homework is not an "evil" but a good thing in moderation.
    Cheers!

  13. From the things I know about you, you were definitely blessed as a child. So happy the audit went well, but I know you will be happy to give that up soon. Retirement is just around the corner!! Happy Hump Day!

  14. Dang, but I can't write a proper sentence to save my life this morning!

    Congrats on the audit approval!
That plant stand's history is wonderful. (Have you a photo to share someday?) I wouldn't part with it, either ... for all the tea in China! (... to channel my mother's old saying, that is.)

  19. Wow, a lot of stuff there...all good information! I also grew up in a small town, Tavares, FL, and have such happy carefree memories of a truly blessed childhood. We didn't have a lot in terms of worldly goods, but we had good friends, woods, family, imaginations, and people who truly cared about us enough to help us stay on the straight and narrow way. So thankful! Congratulations on your successful audit. I was also a bookkeeper/financial administrator, and always breathed a huge sigh of relief when the audit was done and accepted and GOOD! That is definitely something to celebrate and be proud of and thankful for!!

  20. Congratulations on your audit. I have trouble balancing my checkbook. An audit would over tax my abilities. Regarding your Random Thought, as long as you don't reach terminal velocity you should be fine. Have a great weekend and GO CUBS!
