Rocky Mountain High Saturday:9.....

Rocky Mountain High

Thanks to Sam Winters for this week's Meme!

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Rocky Mountain High (1975)

... because Bev recommended John Denver

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Denver sings that he was "born in the summer of his 27th year," because that's when he discovered the place where he felt most at home. What do you remember about your 27th year? (If it hasn't happened yet, what do you want to happen when you're 27?)  That would have been 1978 for me.  I was still married to my first husband and we had just moved to the Washington, D.C. area.  I remember being stressed about finding a job and all the traffic I had to learn to navigate.

2) In 2007, the Colorado General Assembly named this one of the state's two official songs. (The other is "Where the Columbines Grow.") Do you know your state song?  Well, Florida's state song is "Swanee River" (which is misspelled...should be Suwanee).  Ohio's is "Beautiful Ohio".  I have also lived in Maryland and Virginia, but would have to look them up.

3) John Denver was a dedicated environmentalist who wrote an anthem about Earth Day. Are you careful about your energy consumption?  We don't over-do it, but we use what we need.  Do you recycle?  Yes, we recycle faithfully.

4) 1975 is also the year that Denver released a collection of holiday songs called Rocky Mountain Christmas. On this August day, what's the first carol that comes to mind?  White Christmas.  I seem to always think of that one first.

5) Denver dabbled in photography in his spare time and friends say he was quite good. Tell us about your hobbies.  I have let some of my hobbies go by the wayside.  One of these days, when I retire, I'll get back to making jewelry, sewing, painting, and creating with found objects.  I ALWAYS have a book to read, though.  Always.

6) In 1975, when this song was popular, mood rings were all the rage. It was said that the ring reflected the wearer's mood. Black = anxious/stressed, orange = worried, green = normal, blue = happy, pink = as good as it gets. As you respond to this week's Saturday 9, what color would your mood ring be?  Blue and/or pink.  I am rarely stressed, know that worrying settles nothing and am usually happy with life.

7) Pet Rocks were 1975's other odd cultural phenomenon. Do you have any real-life, breathing pets?  Yes, we have three cats:  Lucy, Lilly and Vinny.  We did have five cats but lost our Cookie a year ago and our sweet Onyx just a few months ago.

8) 1975 saw the premiere of Wheel of Fortune. Are you good at word puzzles?  Terrible.  Joe is great at them though and solves the word puzzles in the newspaper every day.

9) Random question: Did you sleep well last night? I usually sleep well....just not for long enough on week nights.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks again to Samantha Winters for doing the Saturday:9 each week!!  Thank you all for checking in today!  Peace, prayers & hugs!

  1. It always makes me sad when people put things they want to do off until some future day. That day may never come.

  2. Kentucky's song, of course, is My Old Kentucky Home. Reading, as everyone knows, is one of my favourite hobbies and has been since I started school. Speaking of Kentucky, when I was 27 I was there in the summer. Back then I didn't work in the summer. Have a good Saturday.

  8. John Denver was huge when I was in 9th and 10th grade. I always enjoyed his songs. Between that and mood rings, you're taking me back in time!

  9. Since I live in Colorado, I can't let a post about John Denver get past me. When we have lived outside of Colorado, any time we heard "Rocky Mountain High" I would tear up and bawl. We love it hear so much!
