Here are the questions for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge from our Hodgepodge hostess, Joyce. Answer on your own blog, then hop back there tomorrow to share your answers. See you there!
1. Way back when (the Hodgepodge bicentennial to be precise) several of you submitted questions as part of a giveaway I was hosting. I went back to that list for inspiration today and found a question submitted by Marla, who blogs over at Marla's Musings. Thanks Marla!
She asks-At what age did you feel like a 'grown-up'? Age 19, when I got married (first time) and went to work full time (even though I wasn't very grown-up). What keeps you young now? At almost 64, I'm not sure I feel young anymore. I'm ready to retire and enjoy senior discounts and slowing down!!
2. When did you last buy a vehicle? 2006 Was this by design or because you had no other option? My car was 10 years old and starting to fall apart. Silly to put more money into it, so I really had no other option. Was the car/truck purchased for your own personal use or was it bought for someone else to drive? It was purchased in my name, for me to drive. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being delightful and 1 being 'pass the Excedrin') how would you rate the experience? Spending that much money is never delightful, but the experience wasn't bad, so I'll say 8. I had done my research and knew what I wanted, so I went after it and got it. I was even pre-approved at the bank with a good rate. It really does pay to do your homework. My Kia Sportage is nine years old and I keep it well maintained. Not quite 90,000 miles on it, so hopefully it will give me a couple more years!
3. Corn bread, corn chips, corn pudding, corn on the cob, cornflakes, corn chowder-your favorite of the corn-y foods listed? Good sweet corn-on-the-cob, please. What needs to be served alongside your selection? It has to be dripping in real butter and salted. I can eat it alone or with a burger, hotdog, steak....whatever. I grew up in corn country (central Ohio) and ate lots and lots of it growing up. My hometown has a Sweet Corn Festival every year, Labor Day Weekend. Check it out HERE!!! Lots of good memories for me!
4. What's something in your life that regularly requires you to 'put your thinking cap on'? My work, each and every day. I am ready to retire and stop thinking all the time!! :)
5. Share a favorite movie set in a school or classroom, or whose theme relates to school days in some way. "Mr. Holland's Opus" which I've seen 50 times (almost anyway) and cry every time. Love that movie, probably because I also loved being in the band, in high school.
6. Reading, writing, and 'rithmatic' are commonly referred to as the three R's. What are the three R's in your life right now? Since I am an accountant and have to stay up on current laws and trends, and write financial reports, I guess I can stick with those three Rs. Have I mentioned I'm ready to retire? I am ready to retire. Make that my 4th "R"!!!

7. What's something you've learned or tried recently you can say was as 'easy as ABC'? I got a new mini-scanner to use at home for scanning receipts, and it was pretty easy to set-up and hook-up and use.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Thanks for stopping in! I really enjoy Hodgepodge posts and thank Joyce for keeping us entertained on Wednesdays!!
Peace & Hugs!
Praying for all too! Thanks for the tips on the 3 r's. I'll keep the reading and add retirement and rushing around at the moment. Like you, I love sweet corn and cornbread too if it's not from a mix that has added sugar. Sweet corn yes, sweet cornbread no! It's like some people add sugar to sauerkraut. I can't eat that! My German ancestors would be appalled. Have a good day, Terri.
ReplyDeleteKeeping you and your family in prayer, Terri. Good answers, have a beautiful Wednesday. Blessings
ReplyDeleteGreat answers. I don't join in on these memes, but love reading other's answers and getting to know them better!! RETIREMENT....I guess that would describe me, but I sometimes think I'd be better off working 'cause I seem to be "on call" a lot!!! ;-) That's okay....I feel this is where I am called to be in this season of my life. HOPE you have a great day! Prayers for your friends and family members.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up the big thing to wait for was Silver Queen Corn. When it was ready people would wait in huge lines at the farms to get it. So sweet. I love corn bread too. I have never had corn chowder or pudding.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I knew that R-retire was going to be in there. :-). IF I were going to eat sweet corn, believe me, it would have lots of Real butter! As a kid, I even loved field corn (raised for cattle).
ReplyDeleteI've eaten field corn too, Judy!!
DeleteI have known you for several years now, and just this year have I seen you write you are ready for retirement, and I hope it can come sooner rather than later. Prayers continue for your family and friend.
ReplyDeleteI love Mr. Holland's Opus, too!!!
ReplyDeleteOur thoughts on feeling young are very similar :)
Sorry to hear about those on the prayer list who are having more difficulties. I'll continue to pray for them.
Kathy (Reflections by Kathy)
Gosh, so many hard things happening to those you love. I will continue to pray for your bil. So sorry to hear he has an infection. Hoping retirement is on the near horizon for you!
ReplyDeleteNo infection, but he has now been diagnosed with a tumor in his brain. Trying to determine whether it is from somewhere else, or contained. Not good news at all. Thanks for the prayers!
DeleteLove reading your answers Terri! I'm with you - sweet corn is where it's at!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love Mr. Holland's Opus too. Such a good movie.
Happy that prayers are helping!! Continued prayers and best wishes to all of your loved ones and friends that need them. xo
That is exactly how I like my corn on the cob too. And, I didn't know you were an accountant. Cool! Retirement, I don't know that word, I love working and I hope one day I will look forward to retiring. Just not now. Love to you and I hope your friend is doing better.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear your friend, Karen is doing better, but really sorry to hear about your bil and friend. It's really hard when our loved ones and friends are suffering so. Asking God to supply every need for each of them.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will be able to retire soon. Working with numbers and keeping up with all the tax laws sounds very difficult.
Yum - I love sweet corn too!
ReplyDeletePraying for all, including Bruce. He and your sister have been through so much this year.
I hope your Bruce recovers completely. Re: ghosts and UFO's I don't think the case has been made or submitted to the jury. Much more evidence is needed. Thanks for visiting!
ReplyDeleteMy husband said I should have answered #5 with Mr. Holland's Opus. So glad you did!
ReplyDeleteSorry I am so late - my computer has been down most of the week. I love corn on the cob - but I cut it off. And I am glad that Karen is doing better....
