Non-Throwback Thursday....
This will be a quick "catch-up" post, instead of a throwback.
Our friends made it home safely, and collected their puppy from the kennel. She was thrilled to be home, and they were happy to sleep in their own bed again. We had such a good visit last week. The years fall away when we get together, and it's (almost) like we are 16 again! Ha! (Hi Elaine!)
The stroke recovery continues for my brother-in-law, Bruce. He is now back in Georgia, which is good for my sister and the family, since he is only 20 minutes from home, now. The second facility he was sent to, in Tallahassee, was not working out. Seems it is good for broken hips and knee replacement therapies, but not necessarily for stroke recovery. His regular doctor, in Georgia, has had to pull several patients out of there (he told them). My sister was lied to, by the night shift doctor, and was encouraged to sign papers that would have had Bruce treated with drugs that would not have been good for him. He was given a drug, just a week ago, that caused him to 'sleep' for 109 hours. My sister was furious, and was the wrong person to cross (thank goodness, for Bruce). She said the daytime staff and the PT techs were great, but the night shift doctor (especially) was horrid. Seems his only concern was to make sure Bruce was knocked out and not a 'problem' during the night. She did file a complaint with the proper state authority.
He is back at South Georgia Medical Center. Not thrilled about it, but we need to go with it for now. They are doing the swallow test for him (finally!) so he can start eating soft foods, and his 'regular' doctor (has been his doctor for years) is thrilled with his progress. Not sure how long he will be able to stay there, because of insurance issues, but we are hopeful progress will continue until the next phase of his recovery. Bruce is helping himself get out of bed and into a chair, now. He is talking more, though still sometimes has trouble with the 'right' words for things. There are also certain things he needs to be able to do, in order to keep moving toward getting home. It has been a hard journey for him and for my sister and the rest of his family, but they are stronger for it, I think. Prayers for all are still appreciated! Thank you!
Thanks for checking in!! Happy Thursday!! Peace, love & hugs!

I am thankful that Bruce is back closer to home, and know it is so much easier for your sister and other family. Sounds like he is making progress every day....slow I know, but at least it is progress. Happy Thursday my friend.
ReplyDeleteBruce being closer to home will be so much easier for your sister,
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
How awful to have that experience with people who are supposed to be taking care of your loved one!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your brother in law continues to improve!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your friends got home safely. It's always good to sleep in your own bed. How sad that a doctor would do something like that, and I hope he gets what he deserves. Giving someone like your brother-in-law such a strong drug could have adverse effects I would imagine. Thanks for the update. His own doctor's satisfaction at his progress is encouraging. Enjoy your Thursday.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you and Elaine had a chance to visit together again. Hi Elaine! :)
ReplyDeleteToo bad about Bruce and Tammy having more obstacles to deal with. Tough break.
Sounds like Bruce is on the road to recovery! Good for your sister for reporting the dr. I'm sure there are too many who get away with that.
ReplyDeleteGlad your friends made it home safely.... Glad also that Bruce is doing better. Sad (and scary) about doctors and the wrong drugs.... Yipes!!!!! Glad your sister isn't afraid to express her opinions.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
It seems we have to know so much and be educated as to what is best for us and our loved ones because we can't trust the healthcare professionals anymore! That is so wrong!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had such a fun time with your friends and that they made it home safely. Continued prayers for Bruce.
ReplyDeleteSorry this happened to Bruce - glad your sister is a good advocate! It sounds like he is progressing well though.
