Promises, Promises
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!
Saturday 9: Promises, Promises (1983)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
I have never heard this song or this group, but here we go...
7) In 1983, when this song was on the radio, the Lotus 1-2-3 program made it easier for PC users to build spreadsheets. Are you answering these questions on a PC or a Mac? Laptop or desktop? Android or iPhone? HA!! I used Multiplan for spreadsheets before there was Lotus 1-2-3 but I also used Lotus long before Excel. Blast from the past!! I am using my Chromebook right now.
9) Random question -- Finish this statement: If I knew then what I know now, I would have probably done everything the same. I'm where I'm supposed to be doing life as it is preordained for me. God is so good. Could I have been smarter about some things? Absolutely but it is what it is.
Saturday 9: Promises, Promises (1983)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
I have never heard this song or this group, but here we go...
1) In this week's song, Naked Eyes lead singer Pete Byrne admits he believed his girl's promises, right from the start, but now he knows he should have been more careful with his heart. Do you consider yourself more trusting or skeptical? I tend to be too trusting but I don't think I am gullible. I always want to trust people and am not disappointed too often.
2) He looks back on when he and his girl laughed like kids. When did you recently literally laugh out loud (as opposed to keystroking LOL)? I laugh out loud every day (or most days). I work with fun people, I have fun neighbors/friends, and I do laugh out loud at things the cats do. Making people laugh was Joe's mission in life and I still laugh in his honor!
3) He accuses her of not being able to finish what she starts. How about you? Do you finish what you start, or can you think of projects that you're unlikely to ever complete? As long as we aren't talking about cleaning the house, I do finish things I start. I am project-oriented most of the time.
4) Naked Eyes was a British New Wave band that had four Top 40 singles, including "Promises, Promises." They never toured 40 years ago because it was difficult to recreate their synthesizer-driven sound onstage. Is there a band or singer you would have liked to have seen perform live, but never did? I've said before that I don't care for concerts with crowds of people and traffic and finding parking and then finding your car after the concert. No one is on my list... sorry.
5) While "Promises, Promises" is about an untrustworthy lover, Peter Byrne says he and bandmate/cowriter Rob Fisher worked well together because they knew they could trust one another professionally. By sharing honest assessments of creative ideas, they knew Naked Eyes would never put out "rubbish." If you want an honest opinion on something important, where do you turn? It used to always be my Joe. Now it depends on what I need another opinion on as to who I might ask. Sisters are a good source of honesty, and so are my sons.
6) Madonna was a Naked Eyes fan. Are you a Madonna fan? Nope. I've never been a Madonna fan. I'm the wrong generation. I AM a fan of Mary, the mother of Jesus though!
8) Also in 1983, America West Airlines took off for the first time, taking passengers from Las Vegas to Phoenix. Where did you go on your first flight? What about your most recent flight? My first flight on a commercial airline was to Boulder, CO, on a business trip. My first single-engine flight was with my brother after he got his pilot's license. I would rather drive if I have the extra time to go on the road trip. That said, I think the last time we flew was for our nephew's wedding back in 2017.
9) Random question -- Finish this statement: If I knew then what I know now, I would have probably done everything the same. I'm where I'm supposed to be doing life as it is preordained for me. God is so good. Could I have been smarter about some things? Absolutely but it is what it is.
Peace & Hugs!
On earth is not His equal!

Interesting questions and answers.. Crowds are not for me either. You are blessed to have happy co-workers! :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. I love the picture of you and Joe laughing. I am glad that you are still laughing in his honor! Life is too short to go around with a long face all the time, even though there are times for sorrow as well...but laughter is the best medicine! I never heard of this group either, and have never been a madonna fan. You and I are of the same generation. I was a Beatles' fan, at least until they got too crazy with drugs... I never used the Lotus program that I can remember. I didn't do bookkeeping until there was Excel. I use a desktop computer...can't get comfortable with a laptop for some reason. I need to sit up straight to type correctly. LOL. That comes from my old typing teacher in high school I guess. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteCan't stand MaDonna...but I would have liked to have seen the Broadway hit, Phantom of the Opera before it folded.
ReplyDeletehugs

Yes, on the last thought...well, pretty much the whole post, grin. Have a beautiful day friend.
ReplyDeleteLaughing is my favorite! ... as is that photo of you and Joe. Never heard of this song/group, either. My concert-going days are over, but I'd have loved to see the Beatles in person. Or ABBA. Wishing you a joy-full weekend! xo
ReplyDelete#4 ~ I agree, that's a resounding NO with the crowds. Really, of any kind for me, except for Church. Mass hysteria where others can be harmed is too easily acted on with the secular crowd.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the post. Hope the rest of your weekend is blessed. xx
No crowds for me either!
ReplyDeleteI love that pic of you and Joe and his laughing is what I first think of when I think of him.
Your ending thoughts today are perfect!
Love the song Terri: I remember singing it is the car on my way to work, this is a great post thank-you for sharing, Mike makes me laugh everyday.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for sharing that adorable photo of you and Joe.

I'm pretty sure Joe was my kind of person. I love to laugh, too, and if I can share it with someone else it makes my day.
