I Won't Be the One to Let Go
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer questions, however, and here are today's questions!
Saturday 9: I Won't Be the One to Let Go (2002)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Barbra Streisand begins by singing about dreams and wishes. What are you wishing for this morning? I wish for a quiet Saturday morning and then some productive work done outside after a trip to Lowe's for some grass seed, sand, and weed & feed. I don't like yard work but my little front yard needs some help.
2) Barry Manilow sings that "anytime you need me, you'll know where I am." If a friend needs you, what's the best way to reach you (text, phone call, email, knock on the front door ...)? Any of those will work but if it is urgent, a phone call or a knock on the door works faster than texts or emails.
3) Both of this week's artists are from Brooklyn. In addition to Barry and Barbra, Brooklyn is home to Coney Island, where America's first roller coaster debuted in 1884. Do you enjoy amusement park rides? If yes, do you have a favorite? I used to love amusement park rides but am just too old for them to be fun anymore. My favorite was always the roller coaster!!
4) Barbra and her husband, actor James Brolin, have lived in the same Malibu home for more than 25 years. How long have you been in your current residence? I have lived in this home for six years. The house we had before this one was ours for 28 years. Do you think you'll be moving anytime soon? I have no plans to move from this home and community.
5) Barry Manilow once lived in luxurious Bel Air. His neighbors were former President and Mrs. Reagan. At first, he thought it would be great to have the Reagans nearby but quickly changed his mind because he disliked the Secret Service helicopters flying overhead. Tell us about one of your neighbors. (No pressure; we don't expect to hear about historic figures.) I have the best neighbors and have mentioned them often here in my blogs. My newest neighbors, Dee and Bill, live across the street. Bill pressure-washed my house one day. I came home from work and he was nearly done. That is above and beyond. I say it all the time and mean it. I am blessed.
6) As a teenager, Barbra worked as a switchboard operator. Her job consisted of connecting calls by inserting phone plugs into the appropriate jacks. As telephoning became automated, these jobs were phased out and by 1983, the switchboard operator was obsolete. Can you think of another occupation that used to be common but doesn't exist anymore? Elevator operator. "What floor please?"
7) Loyal Fanilows can subscribe to ManilowTV. For $9.95/month, fans can watch exclusive content, like interviews and concert performances. Do you more often watch live broadcast TV or streamed content? I rarely watch broadcast TV anymore. I stream everything. Commercials make me crazy now!! LOL
8) In 2002, the year this recording was released, the Sears Wish Book offered seven different collectible Barbies. According to Mattel, the doll's manufacturer, there are more than 100,000 Barbie collectors all over the world. Do you collect anything? Nope. Not anymore. I just have remnants of a few collections from years past (like cat teapots).
9) Random question: Are you exclusively an online/ATM bank customer, or do you often go into the branch and interact with a teller? I went inside my bank earlier this week because the ATM wasn't working and I needed some cash. I tend to use the drive-thru more than an ATM or a teller inside the bank. Even more often than that, I get cash when I buy groceries.
Peace & hugs!!
Magnify the Lord with me
Come exalt His name together
Glorify the Lord with me
Come exalt His name forever

I've noticed that even on Hulu Live we are getting more and more commercials...something like a minute and a half of commercials after every 5 minutes of viewing. Ridiculous for what we pay for it! I've said it before and will likely say it again, you live in an amazing community. I always enjoy hearing about how close you all are. Enjoy your quiet morning!
ReplyDeleteI never was a fan of Barry's singing but he was a great writer...to each his own! Have a great Saturday.
ReplyDeleteWe need to weed and feed our lawn also. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend. ♥

I've always liked Manilow...and I remember mom and dad watching Barbra on Ed Sullivan.

It's a quiet Saturday here too. Bob was hoping to work outside but it's cloudy and cold, so we'll see. I'm working on a little more cleaning out of things today.
ReplyDeleteI always like Barry Manilow, not so much a fan of Striesand, more because of her attitude than her music. :)
Not a fan of Barbra, at all!
DeleteBrave girl! I was always too afraid to ride the roller coaster.
ReplyDeleteThe downtown building where I first began work ('71) had an elevator operator! She was a part-time college student who sat on a little stool with an open book in one hand and the car's paddle in her other.
I'm not a big fan of roller coasters, Terri, I have to admit. Neither am I a fan of either Barbara or Barry, although I will say they have more talent than most could ever hope to have.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are so blessed to have the wonderful neighbors that you do! Have a great weekend!
I am not a fan of Barbra either!
DeleteMe thinks cash will become a thing of the past, sigh...anyways...what great neighbors you have, Terri. smiles
ReplyDeleteI am surprised so many do not like Barbra...I don't like her politics, etc., but I always enjoyed her singing and tried to mimic her in the shower. LOL. Not so sure that I succeeded, but somehow I always sound so much better in the shower. Must be the acoustics. LOL. Of course the people outside the bathroom often look a bit dismayed when I come back out after a singing episode. LOL You are blessed with such good neighbors. We need our house pressure washed so badly. I may have to talk our grandson into doing that. The list keeps growing. LOL. (earning their keep...LOL). I don't mind low and easy roller coasters, but none of those high twisting turn you upside down kind of coasters for me! I prefer a Ferris Wheel, nice and easy. LOL. I do appreciate our ATM, but don't like to go there alone. Normally hubby and I go together and he sits in the car and guards me. LOL. If he wasn't there I would probably just go to the bank, but it is 15 miles away. Okay, that's all folks. I enjoyed reading your answers.
