On Friday, after work, I met with the representative from Hospice and signed the papers for Helen to be cared for by them. Hospice care is so wonderful. I know this is the best way to go for her care now. They have ordered a railing for her bed and also a wheelchair. She couldn't even tell the nurse her name and didn't seem to remember going to the hospital.
While I was there, one of the regular nurses and I took stock of Helen's supplies and she was low on a few things so I got what she needed and dropped them by on Saturday morning. Back at home I did some cleaning and then had the afternoon to do not much of anything. It was nice.
I want to jump back to Friday and share something that happened at work. It was just the sweetest thing!! One of the biologists, Paolo, had been out at one of the lakes and there was a grandma and grandson fishing from the bank. They had quite a nice catch. He told them he would love to get a picture of the grandson with his fish, and if they wanted to do that, to stop at the office on their way out. Well, Paolo had to leave so he gave me the permission form needed to allow us to use the photos, and asked me to take some photos if they stopped in. They did and it was just the sweetest time!! The boy was 10 years old and cute as can be, and he was so proud of his fish. I don't have permission to use the photos so I have blocked out his sweet, very proud face, but here he is...
Today I need to go to Helen's house after work to lock up the house when the cleaners are done. Then I have to take Lucy to the Vet for her annual shots. They didn't want to do them when she had her surgery so off we go this afternoon.

Wow, look at those fish! That was really really sweet! Thank you for sharing those pictures with us. Does my heart good to see kids having fun fishing! I know he sure was proud! Glad to know that Hospice is now in charge of Helen's care. That will be a real blessing for her. I was told at the home where Nanny was that because she was under Hospice care she got a lot of extra attention from them that others didn't get, and it was really nice. So you did the right thing in getting them involved. Wondering about your sisters and when they will be able to come down to visit since your earlier visit was cancelled. I hope you can do it soon. How is your sister in Ohio doing? I hope you have a good week and guess what next weekend is? yay! We can finally hug in person! Looking forward to that special day! Take care and God bless you all week long.
ReplyDeleteMy sister Patti gets a full-body scan for the melanoma next week (I think) but she is feeling fine. The trip to FL has been postponed now. She starts back teaching in just a few weeks now so we are just hoping next summer now. I am trying to get Tammy to drive down for Christmas this year. We'll see. And I am looking forward to those hugs!! xo
DeleteI have heard great things about Hospice.
ReplyDeleteThat is neat that the park takes pics. Do they use them for a website?
Have a great day!
Sweet photos of that young man with his catch, even if we can't see his face, Terri. And I'm certain that you are making all the right decisions when it comes to Helen. As I've said before, I can identify completely with the difficult job you've been entrusted with.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, my friend!
Oh I am sure you did enjoy talking with that young fisherman. So sweet. And what a nice Nana to take him fishing. Poor Helen....so glad she has you on her side, Terri. You know I want to know what your sister was working on!!:) Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteArlene, she was making magnets (I only saw the butterfly ones) and tic-tac-toe games with acorns. All so cute!
DeleteThat's a serious move to have Helen in hospice now. Her situation seems to be changing very quickly.
ReplyDeleteThe fish pictures are great! That was definitely a red-letter day for the young man! I know he must have enjoyed the extra attention he got from you while showing off his catches!
Looking forward to this weekend!
Love love love the kid with the fish. When my Jonathan was little, around 7 years old, he caught a good sized fish from this deck right near the swimming area of the state park where we were camping. He was just so proud of it, so happy. I wish we could see your little friend's happy face, but even without, what joy! God bless you for all you do for Helen.
ReplyDeleteThat boy's such a sweet illustration of Americana! Gosh, I envy creative folks like your sister. (Not me ... I can make a mess out of putting on a seat belt.) One year, already? You and she are surely a testimony not to take anything -- or anyone -- for granted. Have a blessed day, dear friend!
ReplyDeleteSeeing the fish reminds me of my childhood. We fished a lot in central Florida. Ate a lot of seafood we caught off Playalinda Beach too. Those were the days.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you and sis are now widows. That just breaks my heart. Makes me want to hug Steve all the more. We just never know when Jesus will call one of us Home.
I hope your week is easy and blessed. xx
I love the photos of the little boy and his fish. How sweet!
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet pics of the boy and his fish. Makes your job so fun when you see others enjoying themselves.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to see Helen declining so quickly. Hospice is a great help and I'm glad you got them signed up.
I remember when Bruce passed, and of course none of us ever thought that Joe would pass soon after. You girls were blessed with great guys and they were blessed with you!
Aw...love how excited and proud that kid is! I see a lot of fish stories in his future. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm glad things worked out with Helen and hospice. The gals who do that really are amazing people and they give those folks amazing care.
Six months...how can that be? He'd be proud of you and how gracefully you've carried on and been an example to all of us.
Have a great week, Terri!
Catching up here, Terri! I can't keep up when I have kids here, but now they're back home. What a great post! So glad Helen will be taken care of via Hospice. They were such a blessing to us in the weeks before my dad passed away.
ReplyDeleteYour sister and you have more in common than ever now. Your tears touched my heart. I hope you and your sisters can get together again sometime.
