The Wednesday Hodgepodge in the Heat...

Thanks to our amazing Hodgepodge Hostess, Joyce!  You can be a Hodgepodger HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 467

From this Side of the Pond

1. Something you learned from your father?  He taught me to drive and my family will tell you that I still channel him when I'm behind the wheel. (And that isn't necessarily a good thing... think patience!)

2. Do you like onions?  I love onions.  Raw or cooked?  Yes!  How about onion rings?  Yes!  What's something you love to eat that calls for onions?   I love onions on burgers, hotdogs, in meatloaf, on pizza, on almost any sandwich (even tuna... try it!).  Barb, from Sweet Tea & Sandals, turned me on to pickled onions. Oh my gosh, they are so good and easy to make!

3. It's officially summer (in the Northern hemisphere)...your favorite and least favorite things about the season?  My favorite is longer days; my least favorite is hurricanes and humidity.

4. When you think about the summers of your childhood what are two or three things that come to mind?  School is out!!  Barefoot days outside with friends!! In high school, I actually looked forward to band camp before school started again.

5.  A hot mess, the heat of the moment, beat the heat, if you can't stand the heat, catch heat, in a dead heat...choose a 'hot 'phrase and tell us how it applies to your life right now.  In central Florida, it is beat the heat (by staying inside!).

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Still on my mind.  I know I did the right thing by letting Lilly go but Vinny is really having a hard time without her. They were buds and he is still looking for her.  I want to give him a couple of weeks to start feeling spoiled and pampered and hope he adjusts because I really don't want another cat... but I would consider it for him.  Time will tell.  Thanks to everyone for your sweet words and compassion.

Peace & hugs!
Our God is Amazing!

  1. My nephew would eat onions like apples when he was little. How crazy is that?!? Thank goodness for air conditioning.

  2. So glad to learn you're a fan of onions, too! Now I want to hear more about the pickled variety.
My son and DIL have had to say goodbye to two of their elder-kitties in just the last two weeks. It hurts.

  3. Animals take time in grieving for their family... my dogs took a few months to adjust to losing a brother or sister.

  7. I like sweet onions, like Vidalia. I cook with them, but don't eat many raw onions. It's so hard to get the taste out of my mouth...like garlic. LOL. I never heard of pickled onions, but I guess there are pickled onions in my bread and butter pickles...is that what they are? My heart goes out to you and Vinny in missing Miss Lilly. Yes, take your time before deciding about a new kitty...but it may be good company for Vinny while you are gone to work, etc. (((hugs))) for both of you.

  8. You band kids really were sort of a clan unto yourselves. I remember the band kids having all these great stories and friendships, a culture of sorts, that the rest of us couldn't fit into. I'm sure other groups had the same thing, but the band kids just always stood out to me. I enjoyed your answers and learning more about you, Terri. Enjoy the rest of the week!

  9. Ugh!! That breaks my heart that he is still looking for her. I do think he'll eventually adjust to having just you. I hate that you've had so many losses in so short a time, Terri. You're such a trooper.

  10. Thanks, Terri, for the tip of the hat on #2. My favorite way to eat onions is in the burgers at Red Robin, “onion straws”. I haven’t been there in months, which is just as well because we’re not taking low calories here!

I’m not a fan of summer, but I do sit near a fan whenever possible and I get by just fine.

  11. The question about onions made me smile. When I was a young bride I bought my mother in law a wall hanging thing with a handle on it and picture of onions. It said “Happy in the family who eats onions together.” She loved onions and it’s the only decoration she never changed on her wall. Even when they bought a new house she hung it back up. I inherited it from her. My youngest son will inherit it from me when my earthly time is over. He loves onions too.
Sorry Vinny is having a hard time.
If you ever do get another cat it will not be the same as the others but I’m sure your heart would open up to love it too but I understand. I miss my dog Nanook but I probably won’t get another. Time indeed will tell though.
