The Wednesday Hodgepodge is Back!

Many thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for this week's Hodgepodge questions.  Grab the questions HERE, post your answers and then link up with a whole bunch of Hodgepodgers for some Wednesday fun!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 310

1. The Hodgepodge lands on June 14th this week, Flag Day in the US of A. Do you fly your country's flag at home?   Proudly!!  Sometimes, often, or every single day?  We fly a stars & stripes windsock all the time and switch it out for the flag on appropriate days.  Have you ever visited the city of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia)?  Yes. That's where Joe is from.  Did you make a point of seeing The Betsy Ross House?  No. We missed that one.  Have you ever made a trip to Baltimore?  We love Baltimore.  If so, was Fort McHenry on your itinerary? (where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write The Star Spangled BannerWe usually don't get farther than the Inner Harbor and all of those wonderful restaurants.  I have not been to Ft. McHenry.

2. Red flag or white flag? Which have you encountered most recently? Explain.  Probably the white flag of surrender.  I have so much work to do that I have surrendered to the stress and am just taking it as I can. It will all get done. It will.

3. Are you a stay in the car listen to the end of a song kind of person?  Sometimes. What kind of person is that?  One who loves a good song and just needs to hear it all.

4. What are some of the traits or qualities you think a good dad possesses?  Patience is the most important (after love).  In other words, what makes a good dad?  One who is involved and listens and lets you know you are loved.  What's an expression you associate with your father?  Fun!!  Laughter. My dad was always so much fun.

5. What's one rule you always disagreed with while growing up?  A 10:00 p.m. curfew my senior year.  Is that rule somehow still part of your adult life? No curfews now, but I am usually ready to go to bed by 10:00!  LOL  Is that a good or bad thing?  I guess it's a good thing.  I know the curfew was for my protection and I did get permission now and then to be out longer.  If I was going to be late, though, I had to find a payphone to call and let them know.  No cell phones back then!  Had to keep that dime in your shoe.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Yesterday, a coworker asked me if I was okay and said I looked tired. Well, I AM tired.  But I threw on some extra eye makeup this morning. Maybe that will help.  I think retirement will help too!  It's coming!

Peace & hugs, y'all!!

Adding a PS:  I learned last night that my long-time blogging friend (from the Multiply years) has lost her life to cancer.  Lanie (as she was known on her blog)/Melanie Leggett Jenkins (as she was known on Facebook) fought a battle with lung cancer that spread to her brain.  We talked on the phone a couple of months ago when she called to tell me her doctors had done all they could do and she was in hospice care at home.  We met in person a few years ago when she traveled to Florida with her husband, who is a truck driver.  I will miss her sweet spirit and wit. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

My hubby is from Philly too.

I was at Inner Harbor once quite a few years ago. I loved the Aquarium.
    Have a great day!

  4. This was interesting since I live in Philly. Went to the Betsy Ross House several times (especially in school) as a kid but even as an adult. Just recently went to see the Liberty Bell and Franklin's grave. Living here we tend to take these places for granted. I've been to Baltimore a lot and did go to see Fort McHenry. You should go if you ever get the chance. I also sit in the car to listen to the end of a good song. It drives my husband nuts. (LOL) You will enjoy retirement (coming soon). It took me months to get rested though.

I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's passing. Cancer is a terrible thing. I will be keeping her family in prayer.

  5. Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. (((hugs))) to you and prayers for her family. Re: Flag, ours is flying proudly today (until the rain comes). Never been to those places in Phila. and Baltimore. Haven't done much traveling due to working, and now that I am retired, we have no money! Such is life! Ha ha . I know you are tired...I remember those last months before retiring from a similar type job. So many details to be sure are taken care of...I sometimes still think about and wonder if such and such was ever taken care of...but I know my successor is doing a great job, and she hasn't had to call me since the first month of taking over! So that is wonderful. You do need to try and rest and take care of yourself during this time so you don't get run down. Praying for you.

  6. So sorry to hear about Melanie, very sad news. It's no wonder you're tired, you have been one busy lady for a while now. Just stay focused on retirement (as if you don't) and knowing a long rest is coming!

  7. I like your "proudly" answer, Teri. It really is funny that the curfews we had that we disagreed with have now become what we do. I guess the big plus there is we get to sleep with our date! (I hope that wasn't too crude.)
I am so sorry to read about your friend.
You don't have too much longer to go now. Hang in there!

  8. Sorry to hear about your dear bloggy friend passing away. Sadly there have been a few this past year. It leaves an empty space for sure. I'm enjoying reading the rules answers on different blogs. Brings back a lot of memories and rules I forgot about.

  9. I love it when someone comments 'You look tired'-ha! How do you respond to that kind of question? I'm so sorry to read about your friend. Cancer is ruthless.

  10. I'm sorry to learn of Lanie's passing ... particularly given the huge smiles on your faces in front of that 18-wheeler. (Yes, I took a detour to your "Have We Met?" link.)

Great answer to #3! Now that I've a (so-called) smart phone and Alexa, if a song pops in my head I can order it up like a fast-food juke-box.

  11. Funny how some of those rules and punishments we hated as kids we'd give our eye-teeth to have now...like naps and time outs!

I am sorry about the loss of your friend.

  12. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, Terri. Cancer is such a horrid thing. I am glad that you too had a father who left you with good memories of him. We are blessed. I'm looking forward to your retirement almost as much as to my birthday. 😃

  13. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Cancer is awful. I lost a dear friend last year to it and my dad continues his battle. Thankfully, Dad is winning his. My dad is funny, too. I have so many hilarious memories from growing up. How funny about the 10:00 curfew and now it's your bedtime?! Isn't that the way? :)
